Former US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel has made serious allegations against President Donald Trump. He accused Trump of damaging decades of US-India relations in his desire to get the Nobel Peace Prize.
Emanuel, a former senior adviser in the Obama administration, said Trump’s arrogance led to diplomatic efforts being ruined. Trump sought public praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan, so that he could get the Nobel.
This affected America’s relations with India. He said, ‘Trump ruined everything because Modi did not say that the President should get the Nobel Peace Prize.’
India claims that the ceasefire decision was taken independently after an appeal by the Pakistani Army. But Trump repeatedly says that he forced India and Pakistan into this by threatening heavy tariffs.
Emmanuel said that under Trump’s rule, America missed the opportunity to use India as a counter to China. This is harmful in sectors like construction, technology and defence. Trump’s actions ignore 40 years of efforts to strengthen US-India relations.
Apart from this, Emmanuel raised questions on Trump’s relations with Pakistan. He alleged that Trump compromised because of the economic benefits he received from Pakistani deals. In particular, Trump’s sons Donald Jr. and Eric were mentioned, as well as Jared Kushner, who is said to have a stake in a Pakistani company related to cryptocurrency.
Emanuel called it a major strategic mistake and warned that China had taken advantage of America’s mistakes. China used this to its advantage.
