Karnataka govt announces one-time 3-year age relaxation for state civil service recruitment.

The Karnataka government on Monday announced a one-time relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for candidates applying for direct recruitment into the state civil services. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) issued the order.

“The government has issued an order relaxing the age limit by three years for all categories of candidates applying for recruitment to civil service posts of the state government,” news agency PTI quoted an official statement as saying.

The state government explained that the decision was taken after several public representatives and organisations approached Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with requests to relax the maximum age limit for applicants.

Earlier, in an order dated September 6, 2025, candidates were given a one-time relaxation of two years. However, following further appeals, the government reviewed the issue and withdrew the previous notification.

“The government, after examining the said representations, has decided to grant a one-time relaxation of three years in the maximum age limit,” the DPAR said.

The order will apply to candidates from all categories who take part in recruitment processes as per notifications issued after the date of this order and up to December 31, 2027.

The government also reminded that recruitment authorities had already been directed not to issue new notifications for direct recruitment or for filling backlog vacancies in certain reserved categories until further orders, as the internal reservation within Scheduled Castes is yet to be implemented.

According to the DPAR, this age relaxation is a one-time measure intended to help a larger number of aspirants across Karnataka to compete in upcoming recruitment exams.
