The registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will begin today, August 27. IIT Madras, which is conducting GATE 2027, had earlier changed the registration schedule. The application process was originally set to start on August 14 but was postponed to August 27. Candidates can register through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal.

Under the revised schedule, candidates can submit the application form without a late fee until September 27, 2026. The earlier deadline was September 21. Those applying with a late fee will get time until October 5, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline of September 30.

The remaining dates have not been changed. The application correction window will be available from October 14 to October 21, while the city allotment notification will be issued on January 4, 2027.

For greater security, the GATE 2027 registration system will be linked with DigiLocker and facial authentication, IIT Madras had said.

How to Apply for GATE 2027?

Step 1: Go to the official GATE 2027 website – gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

Step 2: Click on the Apply Online option on the homepage.

Step 3: Register by entering the required personal and academic details.

Step 4: Log in and complete the application form. Upload all required documents.

Step 5: Pay the application fee and submit the form.

Step 6: Download the confirmation page and keep a copy for future use.

GATE 2027 Introduces New Robotics and Automation Paper

IIT Madras has introduced a new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper in GATE 2027. The existing Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper has also been moved as a sectional paper under Engineering Sciences (XE).

The exam will be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) across 30 test papers. The syllabus has been revised after five years to reflect changes in academics and industry requirements.

Candidates can choose to appear for one or two papers, depending on the permitted two-paper combinations.

GATE scores are used for admission to Master’s, Direct Doctoral and Doctoral programmes at eligible institutions. Several PSUs and other organisations also use GATE scores for recruitment. The score remains valid for three years from the date of result declaration.
