You were doing youth based shows at MTV in America. But then how did the idea of ​​making a film on such a legend?

My father was a journalist. I had Lokmanya Tilak and his learning since childhood. When we talk about Lokmanya Tilak, when we learn about him, his personality is so powerful that impacts you. Your childhood teaches you a lot in adulthood. Lokmanya Tilak ji had a lot of influence on me through Papa. Somewhere our roots are the same. I am a Mumbai boy. This Marathi grew up in the house. Whatever you learned and seen in the house will remain till the last. The training that has been received in your childhood in your house will always be together. In making historical films from the youth based show, I do not think there has been some change in me. Yes, return is necessary.

You don’t think it is more difficult to make a film on the anonymous hero of history? Seeing the film ‘Tanaji’, people came to know about him.

When I was working in MTV in America, I saw American filmmaker Jack Snier’s film ‘300’. I have a friend Valari. We were also working together from the same college and in MTV. His heritage is Greek. He used to tell me about the film ‘300’ again and again. He used to say that man is coming to our warrior. We should watch this film. Before the release of this film, I used to hear the stories of Spartan. He also used to tell about Oracle’s idea. He was very impressed with his culture.

When the film came, both of us came to see after office. I went mad after watching that film. I told him that brother Jack snider has made this tremendous film. Me and he was going towards the station. I told him that there is such a story in our Maharashtra too. Their sacrifice is also very big. I would like to make one such film on them, which gives our culture a place. See the whole world on Tanaji’s sacrifice. When the film was released and it was given a lot of love by the people. When the film touched the 100 crore mark, I received a call from Ajay Devgan Sir. He congratulated me. Then it came to my mind that Tanaji is no longer an anonymous hero.

Earlier, you made the Marathi film ‘Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush’. What kind of difficulties did it cause to make it?

Let me tell you, the room in which we are sitting and interviewing. This has shot this film in half the room. At that time I had neither money nor place. I had a small small house of 340 square feet, which I made an office. I went to stay at my parents’ house. In the same old, there was a production-direction meeting, casting in the house. At the same time, the trial and the film were edited. Sitting in a very small area, we all made that film and became good. There was a lot of difficulties because the dream was big. We did not have money to show that era on such a big scale. The budget in which we have made this film, I cannot even speak the number because it is a very small number. It was challenging to make such a film in such situations.

Om’s Marathi film Lokmanya has received many awards.

I have a friend who does big Hindi films. I heard him the script. He told me that he gives a script to his production team so that he will make the budget. His production team had given a budget of Rs 75 crore. I said I do not even have 10 percent of it. We made this film for much less than 10 percent of the money. Challenge is always there, whether it is a small budget film or a big budget. I always say that make your every film like it is your last film. It is not known whether the above will give a chance to make another film.

Any praise for the first film ‘Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush’ that you still remember?

When I was making a film ‘Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush’, my hair was long. Goti used to shave in style, wandered wearing shorts. Everyone felt that MTV is an American boy and maybe I was also. When I went to Doctor Deepak Tilak, who is a descendant of Lokmanya Tilak. He said how do we give it permission to make a film? I was told this later. In the second meeting, when I gave him the revelation of the story, it was very good to hear him. At the time of release, he told me that you did not think that you will make such a film.

I got the second response from the audience. I go to the cinema hall to know the reaction of the audience. After the release of this film, I and a friend of mine went to Pune from Mumbai. We were standing outside a theater in Pune. The show was about to begin and both of us were waiting that when Tilak ji’s introduction scene comes, we will go inside and see the reaction of the audience. We saw that the film’s ticket was being sold in Black there. Black ticket seller also came to us and said a price and said that take it. We refused. As soon as the film started, he came to us again and said that take a ticket in 150. When we refused again, he said how are you youth? One should watch such a film. Hearing this, there was a smile on me and my friend’s face.

Om received the Filmfare Award for the film ‘Tanaji’.

Any complex found for the film ‘Tanaji’, which you would like to tell?

There are two-four comments but I will not be able to tell. However, the biggest praise for me is what Ajay sir gave by watching the film. Ajay sir saw the film in the trial and said that your film is a hit. The biggest thing for me was the same. He gave me my first Hindi film. He not only worked in it but he also produced the film. His support and praise is the greatest for me.

Your first and second films created history. You tried your best through the third film ‘Adipurush’ but did not get the same response. How to deal with failure?

See, should not be disturbed by both success and failure. If you change with success, that is, your core is bad. As Ajay sir says that a person does not change with success, but his truth comes out. The same should not be disturbed by failure. If success teaches you, then failure teaches more than that.

You learn when you do some things and it succeeds. You think what you tried did the work. But by failure you learn what not to do. With failure, you should get a chance to fix your mistake. You should learn from your mistakes and fix it and move forward. If a person does this, then it means that.

Adipurush, built at a cost of about Rs 700 crore, earned Rs 392 crore at the box office.
