- 26 Social Media Platforms Including Facebook And YouTube Were Banned In Nepal, Action Was Taken For Not Registering

The Nepal government on Thursday banned 26 social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube.
These platforms did not register in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Nepal. The ministry had given a seven -day time limit from August 28, which ended on Wednesday night.
During this period, platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, X (Twitter), Reddit and LinkedIn did not apply for registration. Tickeks, Viber, Watches, Nimbz and Popo Live have registered, while the approval process of Telegram and Global Diary is underway.
Ministry spokesman Gajendra Kumar Thakur said that if a platform completes registration, it will be restored on the same day. This ban will affect millions of Nepali living abroad.
Senior journalist Pralhad Rizal said, ‘More than 70 lakh youth are abroad for studies or jobs. This ban will affect his conversation with his family and friends. However, no response has been received from Facebook or other companies so far.
