There were Delhi riots in February 2020.

The Delhi court has convicted five people in the Bhajanpura petrol pump violence case related to the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. The court admitted that the mob of accused had pelted stones and attacked the policemen on duty.

However, the court acquitted all five of the charges of setting fire to the petrol pump.

Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh of Karkardooma Court gave this order against Arif, Mohammad Khalid, Abdul Sattar, Tanveer Ali and Hunain. The court had given this order on September 9 but the matter has come to light today. The court has not yet pronounced the sentence.

All these charges are under sections 147, 152, 186 and 353 of IPC. These have been read with Section 149 of the IPC related to unlawful assembly. Violence broke out in Delhi in February 2020. 53 people died in this. So far the court has convicted 26 people in the Delhi riots case.

Police had to flee due to stone pelting by the court

The court said that the culprits threw stones at the policemen. The attack was so violent that the policemen had to escape by jumping over the wall of the petrol pump.

It was told in the court that on February 24, 2020, at around 2 pm, information was received about a large crowd gathering at Bhajanpura petrol pump. This petrol pump was on Yamuna Vihar Service Road and is also known as Delhi Diesels.

Policemen who reached the spot saw 100 to 150 people. These people broke the road divider from Chand Bagh side and came towards the petrol pump. The crowd became violent and pelted stones. The mob vandalized petrol pump machines and attacked policemen.

6 years ago, tension increased in Delhi regarding CAA, riot occurred

In February 2020, tension increased in North-East Delhi over protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Between 23–26 February, rioting, arson and stone pelting occurred in many areas.

53 people died and hundreds were injured in the violence. Houses, shops, vehicles and religious places were damaged.

Delhi Police accused some people of allegedly hatching a larger conspiracy for the riots, mobilizing the protesters and inciting violence.
