Heavy rains have disrupted life across North India, forcing schools in UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal, Jammu and Chandigarh to remain closed on September 3 for safety reasons.

School Holiday On September 3: Heavy rains have thrown normal life out of gear in several parts of North India, forcing state administrations to shut schools for safety reasons. From Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Chandigarh, schools will remain closed on September 3. The move comes after the weather department issued red and orange alerts in many districts.
Uttar pradesh
In UP, the rain alert is mainly for western districts. Schools in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Kasganj, Pilibhit, Baghpat, Shamli, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, and Ghaziabad will remain shut. In Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, all schools up to Class 8 have been ordered closed due to disrupted public life.
Noida and Greater Noida
All schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar, from Nursery to Class 12, will stay shut. The order applies to government, government-aided, CBSE, ICSE, and Madrasa Board schools.
Ghaziabad
Schools across Ghaziabad are also closed for all classes up to 12. Officials have asked parents to keep track of weather updates and follow advisories.
Uttarakhand
With the risk of landslides and flooding, schools in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Nainital, and several Kumaon and Garhwal districts will remain closed. In Chamoli and Nainital, schools were already shut, and the closure has now been extended till September 3.
Punjab
Flood-like conditions have forced Punjab to shut all schools, colleges, universities, and polytechnics till September 3. Rivers including Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi are flowing above danger marks. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the step was taken for the safety of students and staff.
Himachal Pradesh
Heavy rains, landslide risks, and overflowing rivers have prompted school and college closures in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, and Lahaul-Spiti. Shimla is under a red alert.

Jammu
Schools across the Jammu division will remain closed on September 3. Authorities have asked institutions to hold online classes so that studies are not affected. Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, and Reasi are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
Chandigarh
All schools in Chandigarh will remain shut after the city recorded more than 140 mm rainfall over the past few days. More showers are expected.
