IIT Indore shines with historic placements, five students earning Rs 1 crore+ packages. Average salary rises 13% amid growing company interest despite ranking challenges

After class 12, many students dream of engineering careers, aiming for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Among them, IIT Indore in Madhya Pradesh has recently made headlines with its exceptional placement results. This year, five students secured annual packages exceeding Rs 1 crore, marking a historic milestone for the institute.
Growing Opportunities And Diverse Recruiters
The 2024 placement season at IIT Indore has shown significant progress compared to the previous year. While in 2023 only one student secured a crore-plus package, this year even the minimum packages have seen substantial increases.
Over 500 job offers have been made since December 1, 2024, with more than 88% of students gaining employment.
The campus attracted over 150 reputed companies, including public sector undertakings, from sectors such as IT, core engineering, fintech, automobile, energy, environment, consulting, banking, semiconductors, and construction.
Salaries Rise Amidst Increased Demand
The average salary package increased by 13%, reaching Rs 27 lakh per annum. These figures demonstrate both the quality of IIT Indore students and the rising demand for their skills across industries.
Addressing Global Ranking Challenges
Despite placement successes, IIT Indore’s global ranking in the QS World University Rankings 2026 dropped to 556th, down from 396th in 2023.
Institute Director Prof. Suhas Joshi acknowledged this decline and outlined measures underway to improve research output, patents, innovation, global collaborations, and student-exchange programmes.
Future Plans And International Collaborations
With 118 MoUs signed across 34 countries and a community of over 3,000 students supported by 220 faculty members, IIT Indore is confident these initiatives will elevate its global standing within the next two to five years.
