- MGNREGA Update: 4.43 Crore Job Cards Deleted In 5 Years | Highest In Bihar And UP

The Central Government told the Rajya Sabha on Friday that in the last five years, 4.43 crore job cards have been removed across the country under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA).
In this, maximum cards have been removed from Bihar. The ministry said that Bihar and Uttar Pradesh account for 44% of the total removed job cards.
This information was given by Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan in a written reply to the question of MP Tiruchi Shiva in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
The minister said that the process of removing job cards is done regularly. Its objective is to remove cards with fake, duplicate or incorrect entries.
Apart from this, cards have also been deleted in cases where families have migrated permanently, gram panchayats which have been urbanised, or families where the only member holding a job card has died.
SOP issued on 25 January 2025
The government said that to make this process transparent, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was issued on 25 January 2025.
The government said that if there is any kind of confusion these SOPs can be referred to.
MNREGA Ab VB G RAM G
‘Developed India-Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) (VB-G Ram Ji) Bill, 2025’ was passed in the winter session of Parliament. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had presented it in Parliament.
This bill will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The new bill states that its objective is to create a new framework for rural development in line with the national vision of ‘Developed India 2047’.
Under this, the number of working days will be increased from 100 to 125 days.
According to Section 22 of the Bill, the fund sharing pattern between the Central and State Governments will be 60:40, while for North Eastern States, Himalayan States and Union Territories (Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir) it will be 90:10.
Section 6 of the bill allows state governments to notify in advance, for a period of 60 days in a financial year, covering the main agricultural seasons of sowing and harvesting.
Opposition demonstration in Parliament premises
The opposition protested in the Parliament complex on this issue. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with other opposition leaders demonstrated against the VB G RAM G Bill related to MNREGA.
He said that weakening MNREGA affects the employment rights of crores of people. At the same time, Trinamool Congress MPs also staged a dharna overnight in the Parliament complex in protest against the bill.
After the bill was passed, the opposition demonstrated overnight in the Parliament premises.
