A 48-year-old school principal was stabbed to death inside her residence in Kondamallepally in Telangana’s Nalgonda district, with police suspecting that the attackers may have been people familiar with her.
Kallu Roopa Reddy, principal and director of a private school in Kondamallepally, was found dead at her home on Wednesday. Police said she had suffered around 27 stab woundspointing to a violent attack.
Investigators have not yet identified the assailants or established a definitive motive. However, the apparent absence of theft has led police to examine the possibility that the killing was targeted.
She had returned home after school
According to police, Roopa Reddy had travelled to Hyderabad with her husband, Kallu Rajender Reddy, during a three-day holiday. While her husband remained there for work, she returned alone to Kondamallepally on Tuesday and went to school.
She reportedly stayed at the school until about 5.30pm before returning home. Police said she had told colleagues that some friends were expected to visit her.
The following day, she did not report to school.
When her husband tried calling her and could not get through, he contacted tenants at the property and asked them to check on her. They too received no response.
Rajender then contacted a nearby police sub-inspector, who went to the house with neighbours. Roopa Reddy was found inside, lying in a pool of blood.
Theft angle not apparent
Police examined the residence with a dog squad and began collecting evidence. Officers said no cash or valuables appeared to be missing, making robbery an unlikely motive at this stage.
Investigators are now looking closely at people who knew Roopa Reddy, while also examining possible family disputes and other personal motives. The circumstances surrounding the reported visit by friends are also expected to form part of the inquiry.
A case has been registered following a complaint by her son, Abhinav Reddy.
Investigation underway
Police are expected to examine forensic evidence, call records and other available leads as they work to reconstruct what happened inside the house.
