Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has entered into a merger agreement to buy Anisphere, the parent company of AI coding platform ‘Cursor’, for $60 billion i.e. about Rs 5.67 lakh crore.
After this deal, the estimated net worth of Cursor’s 25-year-old Indian-origin co-founder Aman Sangar has increased to $ 5.5 billion i.e. about Rs 51.98 thousand crore.
New York-born Aman Sangar started coding at the age of 14. After this he studied Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In 2022, at the age of 21, Aman dropped out of college along with three of his classmates – Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif and Arvid Lunnemark. These four started ‘Cursor’ this year.
Journey from mechanical to AI coding
Initially, these four founders tried to create an AI copilot for the mechanical engineering industry. However, he later changed his focus and started working on building an AI-assisted coding platform.
On LinkedIn, Aman Sangar explains his mission in very simple words – “To remove all barriers to creating software.”
Aman Sangar’s role in Cursor Company
Aman Sangar is working as the Chief Operating Officer of Anisphere Company. While his partner Michael Truel is in the role of CEO and Sualeh Asif is looking after the work as Product Head.
Aman Sangar has played a key role in Cursor’s rapid growth, where he oversees product strategy, distribution, and community building.
What is cursor platform?
Cursor is an AI based coding tool. It is designed so that software developers can write, improve, and understand their code very easily and quickly.
Like older coding tools, it doesn’t just suggest the next word (auto-complete), but helps like an intelligent partner.
It can understand your entire project’s code at once and solve even the biggest coding problems in a jiffy.
Due to this quality, it is being liked a lot among developers and big companies and is emerging rapidly in the world of AI.
Record earnings: Annual revenue reaches $4 billion
The cursor platform had crossed the annual revenue mark of 1 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 9.45 thousand crore in November 2025.
Even after this, the growth of the company did not stop and according to Forbes, by the beginning of this month, the annual revenue of Cursor reached 4 billion dollars i.e. 37.81 thousand crore rupees.
Currently, millions of software developers from nearly 50,000 companies like Nvidia, Adobe, Uber, Shopify, and PayPal are using cursors to generate and edit code.
Special features of SpaceX deal
SpaceX on Tuesday signed a merger agreement to take over Anisphere in an all-stock transaction (via shares). The announcement comes just four days after SpaceX had a record-breaking IPO on Nasdaq.
SpaceX has said that it expects to complete this merger process by the third quarter of 2026. Aman Sangar posted on X- “Excited to train some very strong models!”
Aman Sangar’s background and Indian connection
Before starting Cursor, Aman Sangar interned at Bridgewater Associates and Google, while also running his own AI consultancy.
Her father Arvind Sangar is an IIT Bombay alumnus and hedge fund professional, while her mother Shilpa Sangar is an orthodontist and entrepreneur.
Aman’s success is part of a growing wave of Indian-origin founders shaping global AI, not from IIT or Bengaluru, but from MIT and Silicon Valley.
