Late Saturday night, the Butch couple issued a statement denying these allegations. They said that our life and our finances are an open book.
American short seller firm Hindenburg Research, which came into the limelight by accusing Adani Group of financial irregularities, on Saturday made serious allegations against market regulator SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhawal Buch.
Based on whistleblower documents, Hindenburg has claimed that both of them have stakes in Mauritius offshore company ‘Global Dynamic Opportunity Fund’, in which Gautam Adani’s brother Vinod Adani has allegedly invested billions of dollars. This money was used to boost the stock prices.
Late Saturday night, the Buch couple issued a statement denying these allegations. Quoting PTI, they said that we completely reject the baseless claims made in this report. There is no truth in them. Our life and our finances are an open book. Over the past several years, we have provided all the information to SEBI.

Hindenburg’s allegation- SEBI chief did not take action against Adani Group
Hindenburg alleges that despite having evidence of the disclosures made on the Adani Group and this being proved in more than 40 independent media investigations, SEBI did not take any action. The responsibility of investigating these allegations was on the SEBI chief himself. But on the contrary, SEBI issued a notice to him on 27 June 2024. However, SEBI could not find any fault in its 106-page report on Adani.
Hindenburg had made a claim related to Adani Group companies in January 2023. After this, the valuation of the group fell to Rs 7.20 lakh crore. The matter went to the Supreme Court, where the group was given a clean chit. Later, the company’s shares recovered rapidly.
Allegation against Dhawal Buch: Madhabi’s name removed
Hindenburg alleges that on 22 March 2017, a few weeks before Madhabi became a full-time member of SEBI, her husband Dhaval Buch had sent an email to Mauritius fund administrator Trident Trust informing them that he and his wife had investments in the Global Dynamic Opportunity Fund. Dhaval had requested that he be allowed to operate this fund alone. It is clear that Dhaval wanted to remove his wife’s name from it before making an important appointment in SEBI.
Opposition said- now we know why the Parliament session was ended early
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on social media, ‘Now it is known why the Parliament session was suddenly adjourned on August 9.’ He also used a Latin sentence, which means, ‘Who will protect the watchdog itself?’ Shiv Sena (Uddhav) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, ‘It has become clear why SEBI did not give details of Adani’s companies.’
