Former Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, reiterating an old statement of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru, said that the real threat to India was not from communism but from Hindu right-wing communalism. Ansari said this in the third AG Noorani Memorial Lecture. The event was organized on the life and work of Abdul Ghafoor Noorani. The name of the event was ‘Remembering a Polymath: The Life and Times of Abdul Ghafoor Noorani’. The event took place at the India Islamic Cultural Center in New Delhi. Ansani said – Moving from civic nationalism to cultural nationalism is worrying. Ansari mentioned AG Noorani’s book ‘The RSS: A Menace to India’ published in 2019. He expressed concern over the shifting trends from civic nationalism to cultural nationalism. Ansari said that this book of Noorani was probably his last big book. He described it as important both in terms of size and content. According to Ansari, Noorani had expressed his views through two Urdu couplets in the preface of the book. He said that Noorani did not try to hide his ideological objective in the book. Referring to Nehru’s statement, Ansari cited the statement of Jawaharlal Nehru recorded in the document of former Foreign Secretary Jagat Singh Gundevia. This statement was related to a meeting of Foreign Ministry officials.
