Mihir Ahuja, who came to Mumbai from Jamshedpur, gave auditions for acting for about four years. His film journey started with Super 30, he got recognition from The Archies and now he is seen in the role of an Air Force officer in Operation Safed Sagar. While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Mihir talked about the struggle, rejection, meeting Shahrukh Khan and the discussion regarding Pyaar Paisa Profit. Question: How did you get inclined towards acting while living in Jamshedpur? Answer: I don’t remember ever thinking of doing anything other than acting. I had decided in seventh-eighth class that I wanted to become an actor. I used to mimic my relatives at home functions. People were happy and I also enjoyed performing. From there I felt that this is what I have to do. Question: During your school days, when you were so serious about acting, did people make fun of you? Answer: I had done a small short film in Jamshedpur. After that, discussion started in the school that I had come back after shooting a film. During that time, one day in 10th class I did not bring my notebook. The teacher threw my notebook in the dustbin and said, ‘You consider yourself a superstar? You are not a superstar and will never be one. I had written down his words the same day. Even today I have that paper. I learned to build my building with the stone he threw at me that day. I also tried in India’s Got Talent, but got rejected from there. I felt sad at that time, but later I understood that rejection is a part of this field. Question: Then when did you decide to come to Mumbai? Answer: I came to Mumbai in 2017. However, before that he had also come to Mumbai during holidays after 10th. Came with my family to see where the auditions were held. I introduced myself at many places. Even after returning to Jamshedpur, auditions for AIDS started coming. This boosted my confidence that if I keep trying, something will definitely happen. Question: After coming to Mumbai, how did you handle both studies and auditions? Answer: I came to Mumbai for college, so a routine had developed – college in the morning and auditions in the evening. This was good for me. If I had come only for acting and did not get work, it would probably have been very difficult. I had also devised my own methods of giving auditions. Many times I did not tell my friends or people around me that I had come to become an actor. I used to keep the audition clothes in my bag and say that I am going for tuition. Question: How did you get your first big opportunity after auditioning for so many years? Answer: After auditioning for about four years, I got the Colgate ad with Virat Kohli. But a day before the shoot I met with an accident. The bike hit me and my hand was fractured. When I reached the hospital, the doctor asked me to rest. But the only thing in my mind was that the next day I had my first big shoot, that too with Virat Kohli. I told the doctor not to do plaster, I have to shoot. Took painkiller and went to the shoot the next day. Question: After that when did you get your first opportunity in the film? Answer: My film journey started with Super 30. Got a chance to work with Hrithik Roshan. However, my role in the film remained small and a lot of my work was edited. But that was a big experience for me. Question: Even after Super 30, it took time for you to get recognition? Answer: Yes, I worked even after that. Did Made in Heaven, Feels Like Ishq and other projects. But things changed after The Archies. I got the role of Jughead Jones in the movie and people took notice of me. Question: Did you get a chance to meet Shahrukh Khan during The Archies? Answer: Yes, that was a special experience for me. Meeting Shahrukh sir was a big thing in itself. I have grown up watching them. Had a chance to meet and talk to him at the premiere of The Archies. The things he said about my work mean a lot to me. He had said – Son, just keep doing good work, this is what I have also done. It is in such moments that you feel that your hard work is going in the right direction. Question: After this I worked with Mahvash in Pyaar Paisa Profit. There was a lot of talk about this show, especially about the intimate scenes, what would you like to say? Answer: That was greatly exaggerated. There were no such intimate scenes in the show, as shown in some thumbnails on social media. There was also a kissing scene, which we shot by cheating. Actually the story was good and I liked my character, so I did the show. Some people presented things differently just for views. Question: During this show, did you get the offer of Operation Safed Sagar? Answer: Yes. While the shooting of Pyaar Paisa Profit was going on, I got a call for the audition of Operation Safed Sagar. First I was asked for pictures with a moustache. I sent the photo with a mustache and thought that I don’t know what the character will be like. Later it was revealed that the role was of an Air Force officer. When I read the script, I got goosebumps. It is related to a true story of Kargil war and Air Force. I felt that the opportunity to play such a character should not be missed. Question: What was the most different experience of becoming an Air Force officer? Answer: Shooting at a real Air Force station. Standing in front of a fighter jet and sitting in the cockpit was incredible for me. There were so many controls in the cockpit that I was wondering how the pilots remembered them. The MiG in which I sat was used during the Kargil war. Looking at it one realized how much history these planes have seen. Question: When you met the real officer, what did he say after seeing your work? Answer: Talked to him on phone during the shoot. After watching the series, he messaged me that I have played his character very well. He has also saved my name in his phone as the name of my character. This is a big compliment for me. Question: How do you see the journey from four years of struggle till today? Answer: I agree that even if you feel that nothing is happening, you should not stop trying. I spent four years in auditions. Got a small role in Super 30, then did several series and got recognition from The Archies. Today it has got a character like Operation Safed Sagar. For me, the beauty of acting is that in every character you get a chance to live a new life. I have done the Indo-Australian co-production film ‘Hindi Vindi’. This is a musical drama film, which was shot in Sydney.
