Netanyahu and Trump shake hands after a meeting in the State Dining Room of the White House on September 29, 2025.

Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a US-brokered peace deal to end the two-year war in Gaza. US President Donald Trump announced this on Thursday.

Trump wrote on social media Truth Social, ‘Soon all the hostages will be released and Israel will withdraw its army to a fixed line. This is the first step towards a strong and lasting peace. ,

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said that under the first phase, Israeli hostages in Gaza are expected to be released by Monday. “We think they will all be back on Monday,” he said. Apart from this, Trump can go to Egypt by the end of this week.

Hostages will be released within 72 hours of the agreement

This agreement was reached after indirect talks held in Egypt on October 8. The agreement includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and an exchange of prisoners.

According to media reports, all surviving Israeli hostages will be released within 72 hours of the agreement coming into force in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

An Israeli government spokesman told Reuters that Israel hoped the release of hostages would begin soon. The release of the hostages also includes the bodies of the dead.

Qatari mediators have also ratified the agreement. However, further details were said to be announced later.

Israel will withdraw from Gaza

In exchange for the release of prisoners, Israel will withdraw its forces from Gaza. Hamas has appealed to Trump and the guarantor countries to get Israel to fully comply with the agreement. On this Trump said that all parties will be treated equally.

Along with this, Trump thanked Qatar, Egypt and Turkey for their mediation efforts. He wrote, ‘This is a great day for Arab, Israel, America and all the surrounding countries.’

Trump also shared a map showing Israel’s withdrawal on October 5. He told through the yellow line that the Israeli army will retreat there in the first phase.

What is shown on the map

  • Areas such as Rafah and the Philadelphia Corridor in southern Gaza are shown to be under Israeli control, where security forces will remain in place.
  • The area around Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza is also shown as an Israeli security zone.
  • Gaza City and its surrounding refugee camps are shown on the map as areas where there will be no full return for now.

Peace talks will continue in Egypt

It is still not clear whether the negotiators have resolved the issue of Hamas giving up weapons in Gaza. In fact, in Trump’s peace deal, there was also talk of Hamas giving up its rule in Gaza and laying down its arms. Hamas had denied this during earlier talks.

US officials have told media that talks will continue in Egypt to resolve these unresolved issues, which are expected to shape the next steps of the agreement.

Trump can go to Egypt by the end of the week

At the same time, a few hours before the agreement, Trump had said that he may visit Egypt this weekend. He also said that an agreement to end the Gaza war is very close. Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said negotiations were progressing very well in Egypt.

Trump said, ‘We have a great team, great negotiators. I can go there sometime during the weekend. Maybe on Sunday. At this time everyone is gathered there.

White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said in a statement that Trump was considering going to the Middle East immediately after his check-up at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday.
