The death of 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal after falling from the high cliffs of Lohagarh Fort has shocked the entire Maharashtra. Initially it was considered an accident, but the story revealed in the police investigation seems no less than a crime thriller. Police allege that Ketan’s fiancee Siya Goyal and his friend Chetan Choudhary conspired to murder him and pushed him off the cliff on June 18. Now the biggest question in this matter is that what was the reason that the girl who got married after a few months became the enemy of her future husband?
Ketan’s father Vishal Aggarwal gets emotional remembering his son. He said, ‘He was going to be my support in old age. I hoped that he would stay with me throughout my life and one day light my pyre. But someone’s criminal act took away my son from me.
The family is still trying to understand why this happened. The police may reveal the motive behind the murder in the coming days, but the sequence of events that took place before Ketan’s death itself raises many questions. Repeated trekking to Lohagarh Fort, cancellation of Bali trip, a failed murder attempt and then visiting the same again, all these are now at the center of investigation.
Question- Why was the couple going to Lohagarh again and again?
India Today’s Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) team observed and understood the geography, height and surrounding area of Lohagarh Fort. Investigation found that this fort is about 600 feet higher than the surrounding area. There are steep rocks, deep gorges and many such parts which are far away from the main tourist points and remain very deserted.
The structure of this fort, built centuries ago for security, is such that at some places the crowded roads suddenly turn into deserted and dangerous shores. Especially in the summer and pre-monsoon season, the number of tourists here reduces, due to which many parts become more deserted. This is why the investigating agencies are trying to find out whether Lohagarh was deliberately chosen as a crime spot.
Engagement in February, first trip in May
Ketan and Siya’s engagement took place in February. With the consent of the families, both of them were going to get married after a few months. On May 31, both of them went to visit Lohagarh Fort together for the first time. After this, there was discussion of going there again on June 5, but this plan could not be completed. According to Ketan’s father, the family definitely found it strange that both of them wanted to visit the same fort again and again, but they had no suspicion of any conspiracy.
Bali trip couldn’t even happen
On June 6, a trip to Bali was planned for four people. But Ketan’s passport was allegedly stolen at the airport, due to which the entire trip had to be canceled and everyone had to return. After this incident, on June 14, Ketan and Siya once again reached Lohagarh. The family gave permission for this because the Bali trip was canceled and an earlier planning also remained incomplete.
The first attempt was made on June 14?
Now the police is considering the journey of June 14 as the first attempt to murder. According to investigators, on the same day Sia had allegedly pushed Ketan off a cliff. However, he survived because a tree branch saved his life while falling down. Police claim that after this incident, Siya told Ketan that she had seen a snake on the edge of the rock. In panic he pushed her to save her. Ketan believed this and considered the incident an accident.
Now the investigating agencies are trying to find out whether the June 14 incident was actually a failed murder attempt and whether Ketan had no idea that the person he trusted wanted to take his life.
Died on June 18
According to the police, on June 18, Siya Goyal and his friend Chetan Choudhary together pushed Ketan down from a rock of Lohagarh Fort. Initially the case appeared to be an accident as Siya had told the authorities that Ketan’s foot slipped and he fell. Ketan was an experienced trekker and the possibility of him suddenly slipping and falling was considered low. On this basis, the police started an in-depth investigation of the case.
Layer of conspiracy exposed through CCTV
During the investigation, the police examined the CCTV footage of Lohagarh. In the footage, Ketan and Siya were seen walking together. A third person was also seen behind him, who was wearing a hoodie and his face was covered to a great extent. At one point in the footage, Siya is also seen looking back, while the man suddenly sits down. The temperature that day was around 33 degrees Celsius. In such a situation, the police found it suspicious that someone was wearing a hoodie despite the heat.
India Today also spoke to Dheeraj Jadhav, gatekeeper of Lohagarh Fort. He told that on the day of the incident he had seen a person, who later turned out to be Chetan Chaudhary. He was wearing a mask and sports clothes covering his entire body. According to Jadhav, when they asked him to buy an entry ticket of Rs 25, he described himself as a person who had come for exercise and refused to buy the ticket and proceeded towards the fort.

Ketan’s father says that the visit of June 18 was related to the celebration of Sia’s birthday on June 19. He told that Sia had called Ketan’s mother and asked her permission to go to celebrate her birthday with friends. The family was initially planning to celebrate his birthday at Mahabaleshwar temple, but later they allowed Ketan to go. He did not know that this would be his last meeting with his son.
After Ketan’s death, Sia also wrote an emotional post on Instagram, in which she said, ‘You left me on my birthday. We were so close to marriage.
But the police allegations that came to light later gave a different context to this post and the entire matter. At present, a Pune court has sent Sia Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary to police custody till June 29. Ketan’s father is still asking the same question – ‘If she did not want to marry him, she would have refused. We would have canceled the wedding immediately. After all, why did he need to take my son’s life?
