South Korean President Yun Suk Yeol gave a televised address on Thursday.
President Yoon Suk Yeol, who imposed martial law in South Korea, gave a televised address on Thursday. According to news agency Reuters, he defended his decision and said that he will not step down from the post and will continue to fight against impeachment till the end.
Yun said sending troops to Parliament is not rebellion. To prevent the end of democracy and to counter the dictatorship of the opposition in Parliament, he decided to impose martial law. It was completely legal.
Yun said-

Whether I am investigated or impeached, I will face it impartially. I will keep fighting till the end.

Earlier on December 7, President Yoon had apologized to the country for imposing martial law. He bowed his head on live TV and in front of the public, he said the imposition of martial law was wrong. Then he had said that this decision was not taken due to legal or political reasons but out of frustration.

Last Saturday, the President had bowed and apologized for martial law before the impeachment motion.
President said – Opposition is harming democracy Yun accused the opposition of stopping the functioning of the government. In fact, after the martial law case, the President of South Korea tried to pass a budget of 673.3 trillion won (about Rs 40 lakh crore), but the main opposition party cut it.
Angered by this step of the opposition, the President said that the country’s opposition party is harming democracy. The opposition party is in majority in South Korea. Out of 300 seats in the parliament, the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) has 171 seats.

An impeachment motion was brought in South Korea on Saturday to remove the President, but it failed. For this, 200 votes were required but the opposition could collect only 195 votes.
Martial law in South Korea after 4 decades
In South Korea, President Yoon imposed martial law in the country on the night of 3 December. However, after huge protests, he withdrew his decision within 6 hours. After this step of Yoon, he is facing a lot of opposition in South Korea and efforts are also being made to remove him from his post.
Leaders of the President’s own party are now busy in removing him. Han Dong-hun, secretary-general of the ruling People’s Power Party (PPP), said on Thursday that the president’s resignation was necessary for democracy to be safe.

Opposition will again bring a proposal to remove the President
Last time on Saturday, an impeachment motion was brought against President Yoon. But it could not get the support of the required 200 MPs. Regarding this, Han said that last time many MPs were confused about removing or not removing the President and they did not vote. But now this confusion should be removed.
Han said that the only way to stop this is for every MP to come to the Parliament House and vote based on his conscience. The opposition party DPK in South Korea may bring an impeachment motion for the second time to remove the President from office. This proposal can be brought on Saturday.
