Salman’s film ‘Sikander’ suffered a loss of 91 crores due to piracy, after which the film’s makers will now claim insurance.
Sajid Nadiadwala’s company Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. (NGEPL) has started a process of filing an insurance claim of Rs 91 crore for the loss of piracy to his film ‘Sikander’. This claim is being described as the largest piracy insurance claim in the history of Bollywood so far. Salman Khan starrer The film was released on 30 March 2025.
A source told Bollywood Hungama that the company has started a discussion about the digital piracy insurance cover at the internal level. For this, the audit was assigned to Ernst and Young, who said in his report that there has been a loss of about 91 crores from Piracy.

The film ‘Sikander’ featured actors like Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandana, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Sanjay Kapoor, Prateek Babbar.
How did the figures be removed? According to people associated with the film industry, these figures have been extracted very thoughtfully and after analysis. The film’s earnings before the film’s theater release, seat occupancy data, declining earnings according to areas and tracing of pirated versions on digital platforms were made.
The source said, “The 91 crore figure is no idea, it shows the potential theater and digital earning actual loss.”
When and how did the film leaked? The audit report stated that the film’s pirated copies had come to Telegram Group and illegal streaming sites a few hours after its release. In some cases it was leaked before release.
The main sources of leaks were described as Tamilrokers, Movieulj, Filmijila and several telegram channels. All these sites and group were providing the entire version of the film for download and streaming.
What was different in the pirated version? Sources also said that there were many scenes in the pirated version which were not in the theatrical version. Such as: meeting Alexander by medical students in Dharavi. Long flashback of Qamaruddin’s disease. Rashmika’s desire to become a lawyer. In addition, before the interval, a scene in which Alexander is told many problems, Vaidehi’s suicide atampt and a cab scene, which was not in the final cut.

The estimated production budget of the film ‘Sikander’ was ₹ 200 crores.
A trade source said that the original 1964 version of ‘Lag Ja Gar’ in the pirated version was sung by Yulia Vantur in the theatrical version. The ‘strange story’ sung by Salman Khan was not in the pirated version. From this, it is being speculated that the leaked CBFC was after clearance, that is, the insider may have a hand in it.
Impact on film’s earnings The film ‘Sikander’ had an opening of 27.5 crores on the first day, but the weekends declined and the total earnings stopped at 103.45 crores. Trade experts believe that if there was no piracy, this film could have earned better.
No official claim yet Another source told Bollywood Hungama, “No formal insurance claim has been filed so far. It is only internal discussion, the legal process has not started yet.” But if Ngepl files this claim, it can become the largest piracy insurance case in India so far.

A digital expert said, “Studios are now taking cyber insurance serially, which is a good sign.” No official statement has been received from NGEPL and Sajid Nadiadwala on the matter yet.
