The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday seized the properties of many celebs including former cricketer Yuvraj Singh, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, actress Neha Sharma in the betting case.
According to media reports, in this case, ED has seized the properties of model-actress Urvashi Rautela’s mother, Bengali actor Ankush Hazra, former cricketer Robin Uthappa and former TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty. The estimated value of the seized properties is said to be more than Rs 1,000 crore.
This includes property worth about Rs 1 crore of Sonu Sood, Rs 59 lakh of Mimi Chakraborty, Rs 2.5 crore of Yuvraj Singh, Rs 1.26 crore of Neha Sharma, Rs 8.26 lakh of Uthappa, Rs 47 lakh of Ankush Hazra and Rs 2.02 crore of Urvashi Rautela’s mother.
According to sources, the Federal Probe Agency has taken action after issuing an interim order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
All these celebs are accused of promoting a betting app named 1xbet. The amount received in exchange for promotion was taken through money laundering.
September 24: ED team interrogated actor Sonu Sood for about 7 hours in Delhi office. Statement has been recorded under PMLA.
Let us tell you that all these celebs were earlier questioned by ED in this case. Some time ago, the agency had seized assets worth Rs 11.14 crore of former cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina.

1xBet is a Cypriot online betting company (2007). It allows betting on sporting events around the world. The company describes itself as a globally recognized bookie. Its app and website are available in 70 languages. This platform is banned in India.
This investigation is related to illegal betting app. The company is accused of defrauding people and investors of crores of rupees or committing tax evasion on a large scale. The company claims that 1xBet is a globally recognized bookie that has been in the betting industry for the last 18 years. Its customers can bet on thousands of sporting events. The company’s website and apps are available in 70 languages. 1xBet is a chance based games app.
Government banned betting app
Online betting apps for fantasy sports like Dream-11, Rummy, Poker are banned in India. This decision has been taken after the recently passed Online Gaming Bill 2025 by the Government of India. Under this bill, online betting apps are completely banned.
The government says that such apps are causing mental and financial loss to common people. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had told in Parliament that about 45 crore people are affected by such games. There has been an economic loss of Rs 20 thousand crores. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified it as gaming disorder.
In 2017, the Supreme Court had described fantasy games like Dream-11 as a game of skills. However, betting apps were never legal in India.
Online betting app is causing financial loss
The government says that people are suffering mental and financial loss due to online betting apps. Some people got so addicted to gaming that they even lost their life savings and in some cases, there were even reports of suicide.
Apart from this, there are also concerns regarding money laundering and national security. The government wants to take strict steps to stop this. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said in the monsoon session of Parliament, “Online money games are creating a big problem in the society. Addiction is increasing due to these and the savings of families are being destroyed.
It is estimated that around 45 crore people are affected by it and middle-class families have suffered a loss of Rs 20,000 crore.” He also said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized it as gaming disorder.
