A case has been filed against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Criminal Tribunal for genocide and crimes against humanity.
Bangladesh’s interim government will conduct an investigation under the supervision of the United Nations. Interim government legal advisor Prof. Asif Najrul said that Sheikh Hasina had the responsibility of commanding, so her role in the deaths during the student reservation protests will be investigated.
Tribunal Deputy Director Ataur Rahman said that the complaint has been registered and investigation into the case has begun. After the investigation is completed, we will submit the report to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of the Tribunal for further proceedings.

The complaint accuses Sheikh Hasina and several others of genocide and crimes against humanity.
Supreme Court lawyer filed a case, son was killed in firing
According to the Bengali newspaper Daily Star, an official said that the father of the student killed in police firing has filed a case. Arif Ahmed, a 9th grade student, was shot by the police during a protest on August 5. He died two days later.
Dozens of ministers and officers, including former Home Minister in the Hasina government Asaduzzaman Khan and Awami League General Secretary Obedul Quader, have also been charged in the International Tribunal. All of them are accused of crimes against humanity.
3 cases registered against Haseena in 2 days, including murder and kidnapping
Three cases have been filed against Sheikh Hasina in two days. Earlier on Tuesday, a murder case was filed against Hasina. A shopkeeper Abu Sayed was killed in police firing on July 19 during the anti-reservation agitation. Along with Hasina, six other people were made accused in this case.
A kidnapping case was registered against Hasina on Wednesday. Supreme Court lawyer Sohail Rana said that in 2015, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) soldiers kidnapped her at the behest of Hasina. Five other people along with Hasina were made accused in this case.

Sheikh Hasina made a statement for the first time, demanded justice
Sheikh Hasina, who resigned from the post of Bangladesh PM and then left the country to India, reacted for the first time on Tuesday regarding the matter. Her son Sajeeb Wajed posted on social media quoting his mother.
Hasina has demanded that rioters in the country should be punished and said that there should be justice in the case of vandalism of the statue of her father and founder of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Hasina urged Bangladeshi citizens to mourn the death anniversary of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15 August. Mujibur Rahman was shot dead on 15 August 1975. On the other hand, the interim government of Bangladesh has cancelled the holiday on 15 August.
Hasina paid tribute to those killed in the protests
“Since July till now, many lives have been lost in vandalism, arson and violence in the name of the movement. I pray for the peace of their souls and offer my condolences to them. My sympathies are with all those who, like me, are living with the pain of losing their loved ones,” Hasina said in the statement.
Several students, teachers, policemen, journalists, Awami League leaders and social activists were killed in the protests. “I demand that those involved in these killings and brutality be given the strictest punishment,” Hasina said.
First meeting between India-Bangladesh
Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma met Foreign Affairs Advisor Tauheed Hussain on Wednesday. After the meeting, Verma said, “We are keen to take our relations with Bangladesh forward.” This was the first meeting between India and Bangladesh after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
