Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday threatened India in the UN for not stopping the use of Indus River water. He said any attempt to stop the water would be considered an ‘act of war’. India should not make any mistake regarding this. Shahbaz said that water should never be made a weapon. The function of rivers is to provide water to countries, not to divide them. Like every time, once again Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue in the UN and asked to resolve it as per the rules of the UN. Shahbaz said that Kashmir is the jugular vein for him. India is committing atrocities with the people here. Shahbaz called India’s action on Indus Water Treaty illegal and also raised the issue of Indus Water Treaty. He said that after the India-Pakistan conflict last year, India unilaterally stopped this treaty, which has no legal basis. Shahbaz claimed that UN experts and the Permanent Court of Arbitration have also rejected India’s claims and steps in this matter. He said that this has proved Pakistan’s stand right. Referring to Pahalgam attack and India-Pakistan conflict, Shahbaz also mentioned the conflict between India and Pakistan last year. Shahbaz said that Pakistan Army responded in a precise and professional manner under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir. He also praised US President Donald Trump. Shahbaz said that Trump played an important role in establishing ceasefire between the two countries in May 2025. He said that Trump’s intervention saved the lives of crores of people. Shahbaz said that South Asia should not reach such a situation again. For this he said that resolution of Kashmir dispute is necessary. Issue of Islamophobia also raised: Shahbaz Sharif also expressed concern over the increasing Islamophobia in the world. He said that Muslims are facing hateful rhetoric, discrimination and attacks. Attacks on mosques and incidents of insult to the Quran are also a matter of concern. Referring to India, Shahbaz alleged that RSS-influenced ideology across the border was promoting religious hatred. He said that its impact is visible in the form of mob lynching, communal violence, attacks on religious places and restrictions on religious freedom. Appealing to keep Hormuz and Bab-al-Mandeb open, Shahbaz described the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-al-Mandeb as very important sea routes for the world economy. He said that these roads should remain open and they should not be allowed to become a path of conflict between countries. He said that many countries of the world are connected through these sea routes. If these routes are closed, its impact will not be limited to West Asia only, but can affect the economy of the entire world.
