The auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 will take place on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt, Kochi. 5 franchises will bid in the auction which starts at 5:30 pm. UP Warriors have the highest purse of ₹3.75 crore left.
146 players have registered for the auction, but teams have a total of 27 vacant slots. There are places for 20 Indian and 7 foreign players. The list of players includes 119 Indians and 27 foreigners.
The fifth season of WPL will be played from 14 January to 7 February 2027. It has not been announced yet in which cities the competitions will be held. All information related to auction in the story…
How is the auction conducted? Understand the meaning of base price and purse
In the auction, teams bid for the players they want to include in their team. Every player has a starting price, which is called base price.
After this the teams increase the bid and the franchise making the highest bid buys the player. If no team bids, the player may remain unsold. Each team has a limited amount of money to spend, which is called a purse.

Which player kept what base price?
England’s Sophia Dunkley and Australia’s Sophie Molineau have kept the base price of ₹50 lakh each. The base price is not a fixed amount that the player will receive, but is the price at which the bidding begins. If there is no bid, the player may remain unsold.
Molineau has previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). She was part of the team that won the title in 2024. He took 12 wickets in 10 matches that season. Due to a knee injury, she did not play in the 2025 season and was also out of the 2026 season.
Dunkley played for Gujarat Giants in 2023. She did not give her name for the 2024 season and remained unsold in the 2025 auction.

Who are capped and uncapped players?
In the auction, the terms capped and uncapped are used depending on the international experience of the players.
- Capped players: Who has played for the senior international team of her country.
- Uncapped players: Who has not yet played a match for the senior international team of his country.
Of the 119 Indian players in this auction, 22 are capped and 97 are uncapped. Among the foreign players, there are 14 capped and 13 uncapped players. The foreign list also includes 6 players from associate countries. Associate countries are those whose cricket boards are not full members of the ICC.
Each franchise’s squad can have a maximum of 18 players. The number of foreign players in these cannot exceed 6. There was no fixed limit on the number of players to be retained by teams. By September 28, the franchise had given the names of its retained and released players.
Alice Perry returns to Bengaluru
The biggest question in this auction is which teams would like to compensate for their decisions. UP Warriors have released players like Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon and Kiran Navagire after finishing last last season.
RCB released Grace Harris, while the return of Ellyse Perry will create a new equation in the selection of foreign players for the team. Mumbai Indians have released G Kamalini, which raises questions about the team’s wicketkeeping options.
Delhi Capitals have let go of Lizelle Lee and Sneh Rana, while Gujarat Giants have released Danny Wyatt-Hodge.

Why did many England players not come to the auction?
From England, only Sophia Dunkley and Kira Chaithley have registered their names for the auction. The base price of Chaithli is ₹10 lakh. Names like Alice Capsey, Danny Gibson, Lauren Filler, Linsey Smith and Danny Wyatt-Hodge are not in the list this time.
There are two possible reasons behind this-
- Busy schedule of international cricket: England’s T20 series against Sri Lanka is to be held in early February. Its schedule may clash with the last week of WPL.
- Earning margin: In England’s domestic competition ‘The Hundred’, some players received up to 1.90 lakh Euro dollars last year.
15 year old Ira Jadhav may get a chance
The large number of uncapped players makes this auction interesting. Vrinda Dinesh and Gongadi Trisha, members of the Under-19 World Cup winning team, will be kept an eye on. Trisha had scored a century in the 2025 Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Mumbai’s 15 year old Ira Jadhav is also among the popular young players of this auction. In January 2025, she played an unbeaten inning of 346 runs on 157 balls against Meghalaya in the BCCI Under-19 Women’s ODI Trophy.
Ira was sold for ₹10 lakh in the auction of the first T20 Mumbai Women’s League held in May 2026. She was bought by Akash Tigers and became the most expensive player in the league. Earlier, at the age of 14, she had registered for the WPL auction, but it remained unsold.
Ira Jadhav is a part of Mumbai’s Under-19 team.
Mallika will be the auctioneer
Mallika Sagar is a Mumbai-based art collector and professional auctioneer. He studied Art History from Bryn Mawr College, America and started his career in 2001 with the famous auction house Christie’s in New York.
Mallika became the first woman to conduct the Pro Kabaddi League auction in 2021. Conducted the first auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in 2023 and became the first female auctioneer in IPL history in the same year in IPL 2024.

Who was the most expensive player in the last mega auction?
The mega auction of WPL 2026 took place on 27 November 2025 in New Delhi. 277 players were included in that auction, of which 194 were Indian and 83 foreign players.
A total of 67 to 73 slots were to be filled for the five franchises, which included places for 23 foreign players. The base price of the players ranged from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh.

Delhi reached the finals of all four seasons
WPL was started in 2023. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the title twice each so far. Delhi Capitals reached the finals in all four seasons, but could not win the title. RCB won its second title in 2026.

What will be the auction process?
First there will be a full round of capped players. In this, batsman, all-rounder, wicketkeeper, fast bowler and spinner will be introduced in this order. After this there will be a round of uncapped players. The intense auction process will begin after the initial round. In this, franchises will give names of players as per their need.
