In April 2025, AAIB established a flight recorder laboratory in its campus in the national capital to conduct more effective investigation of accidents. According to the agency, DFDR is painted with bright orange, so that it is visible from a distance. Under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, AAIB conducts a detailed investigation into accidents and also suggests measures to improve security. AAIB is investigating the crash of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft for London Gatwick soon after flying on Thursday.

The solid-state memory device replaced magnetic tape in FDR.
According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Cockpit makes the flight data complement by providing related details on flight crew reactions from Voice Records. Recording also helps in assessing how radio communication or other external distractions can cause factors.
According to ICAO, their data has helped investigators to understand how aircraft accident or during the event, and the airline has provided useful information for flight data analysis programs.
