After the ADF attack, on August 17, 2025, a soldier was guarded in the city of Oicha.
On Tuesday night, the Islamic State rebel group Allied Democratic Force (ADF) attacked Eastern Congo, killing at least 60 people.
The attack took place when people gathered at a funeral. An eyewitness told the media, ‘There were about 10 attackers. He had a mawt (big knife). He asked people to gather at one place and then started killing them. I heard people screaming and fainted. ‘
Lubero region administrator Colonel Alan Kiveva reported that the death toll is around 60, but the final figure is not yet clear. He said, “We have sent services in the area to count people.”
On Tuesday, ADF carried out another attack in the Beni region, killing 18 people. ADF, active on the Congo-Yuganda border, expressed allegiance to the Islamic State in 2019. Despite the actions of Congo and Uganda, the group is attacking citizens.
In July, ADF carried out two major attacks in Ituri province, killing 34 and 66 people. There are several groups active in the region, including a major struggle between Rwanda -backed M3 rebel and the Congo government.
United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Volcker Turk said that the ADF is taking advantage of the lack of security. Local people are living in fear and uncertainty, and the situation is continuously deteriorating.
