Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) rebels opened fire at a police station in the southwest part of Colombia on Sunday.
A police officer was killed and four people were injured in this attack. The Army told X that soldiers were sent to the city of Carmello of the Cowka Department so that the system could be restored after terrorist actions.
The attack was carried out as a response to police action against criminal groups in the area. The rebels of FARC who do not follow the 2016 peace agreement in the region are active. FARC fought against the government for decades, including murders, kidnappings and bombings.
These rebels are led by Nester Gregorio Vera alias Ivan Mordisco, one of the biggest criminals in the country. The army says that armed groups used local people as a human shield so that soldiers could not help the police.
Cowca Governor Octavio Guzaman appealed to the Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez to restore public arrangements immediately.
