Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed on the Waqf Amendment Bill, is on an official tour of Karnataka. He will meet the farmers protesting against Waqf in Hubli and Vijayapura today.
Opposition MPs of JPC have expressed displeasure over Pal’s visit alone. He has said that it is not right for Jagdambika Pal to go alone. This is a unilateral decision. This is against protocol.
According to media reports, an opposition MP said, ‘This visit is not official and it has not been approved by the committee. This is a personal decision of the chairman. Another MP said, ‘We don’t know anything, this is not an official visit, then in what capacity is the Chairman going?

Tejasvi Surya had posted on X on November 5 and informed that Jagdambika Pal will go on Karnataka tour.
Reason for farmers’ protest against Waqf in Karnataka, 3 points
Notices were sent to some farmers of Karnataka’s Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Bidar and Shivamogga claiming their land as the property of the Waqf Board. Farmers started protesting against this, which was also supported by BJP.
The BJP has alleged that after a meeting between Karnataka Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and district officials, Waqf names were added to the land records of 44 properties in Vijayapura without any prior notice.
As the controversy escalated, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said that he has asked the officials to withdraw the notice, but the BJP intensified the protest. He accused the Congress government of land jihad.
JPC has 21 members from Lok Sabha. There are 7 MPs from BJP and 3 from Congress.
JPC members will also make official visits to 5 states
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed on the Waqf Bill will visit 5 states next week. The committee will start its tour from Guwahati, the capital of Assam, on November 9. After this, it will go to Bhubaneswar (Orissa) on 11 November, Kolkata (West Bengal) on 12 November, Patna (Bihar) on 13 November and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) on 14 November.
JPC members will interact with their Minority Affairs Department, Law Department, Minority Commission and Waqf Board in the capitals of these five states. She will also meet other stakeholders including the Bar Council and Muttawalli associations.
