Wanted to become a cricketer; Amarnath had rejected

In seventh class, Ranveer scored 71 runs in just 46 balls in a school match. After this brilliant innings he decided to become a cricketer. Along with his friends, he decided to give trials at the cricket academy of former Indian cricketer Mohinder Amarnath.

Ranveer had narrated this incident in 2017 at an event of the film ’83’. He said, ‘My friends were very serious about cricket and reached on time, but I reached late. Amarnath sir was standing near the pitch. He rejected me after coming late and watching my game. That day he took the absolutely right decision by rejecting me, otherwise I would not have been sitting here as an actor today.

Ranveer Singh played the role of former captain Kapil Dev in the 2021 film ’83’.

Grandmother had dreamed of becoming an actor

Ranveer Singh’s grandmother Chand Burke was a famous actress of the 1950s and 1960s. He made his mark in Hindi cinema with Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Boot Polish’ and worked with many big stars including Nargis, Raj Kapoor. Apart from this, she also appeared in films like ‘Basant Bahar’, ‘Sohni Mahiwal’, ‘Lajwanti’, ‘Adaalat’ and ‘Dushman’.

In an interview given to Simi Grewal, Ranveer Singh had told that it was his grandmother who first awakened in him the dream of becoming an actor. He had said that his grandmother was the first to inculcate the desire to become an actor in him.

Before Ranveer’s debut in films, his grandmother Chand Burke died on 28 December 2008.

Ranveer was suspended because of the song of Shahrukh’s film

The film ‘Dil Se’ was released in the year 1998 and its superhit song ‘Chaiya-Chaiya’ was on everyone’s lips. At that time Ranveer Singh was about 13 years old and was studying in school. Ranveer, who was a huge fan of Shahrukh, was so enchanted by this song that he could not stop himself from listening to it.

One day Ranveer was secretly listening to ‘Chaiya-Chaiya’ on Walkman in the classroom and was completely engrossed in the song. But his mischief could not remain hidden for long. Then his teacher caught him red handed.

It was against school rules to listen to songs while studying in class. The school administration took strict action and suspended Ranveer Singh for a few days for breaking discipline.

Ranveer removed the surname ‘Bhavnani’ from his name because he felt that the name was too long and had too many letters.

Ranveer Singh and Dharmendra’s daughter Ahana Deol were once in a relationship. Both studied in the same college, where their friendship turned into love. Both were in a relationship for about 4 to 5 years.

Ranveer had revealed in ‘Koffee with Karan’ without naming that his college girlfriend had broken up with him for actor Aditya Roy Kapur.

Producer left Ranveer’s pet dog behind

Today Ranveer Singh is a superstar, but during his days of struggle he also had to go through many bitter experiences. He shared one such anecdote in the ‘In Conversation with…’ session of the 19th Marrakesh Film Festival.

Ranveer had told that once he had gone to meet a producer at his house with his portfolio in search of work. He sat in the verandah and waited for hours in the hope that he might get a chance to meet her, but inside he was drinking beer with his friends and having fun.

According to Ranveer, the man left his pet dog behind to have fun. Suddenly a big dog ran towards them and they started running across the verandah in fear. Ranveer said, “I was horrified. Imagine, such a joke was played on a struggling artiste.” However, he did not reveal the name of that producer.

Kept the engagement a secret for three years

In the year 2015, Ranveer Singh proposed Deepika Padukone for marriage. At that time, both of them kept their engagement hidden from the world and for about three years this secret remained limited to only a few members of the family.

Ranveer had told in Karan Johar’s show that at that time he had bought a beautiful diamond ring with the help of his mother and sister. That ring was much more expensive than he could afford, but Deepika’s happiness was most important for him.

During the holiday, Ranveer decided that this would be the right opportunity to propose. There was a small sandy place in the middle of the sea in Maldives. There was only blue water all around and there was no one anywhere. The boat left them there. Ranveer felt that he would probably never get a better moment than this.

He later jokingly admitted that he had deliberately chosen such a perfect environment so that it would be almost impossible for Deepika to say ‘no’ to him.

Ranveer got down on his knees, put a ring on Deepika and expressed his feelings. Deepika was not at all prepared for this surprise. His eyes became moist and he said ‘yes’ with a smile.

That one answer made Ranveer feel as if he had conquered the whole world. Three years later, the couple got married in Lake Como, Italy in November 2018. Their daughter Dua was born in September 2024.

Ranveer and Deepika have worked together in films like ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Padmavat’ and ’83’.

Ranveer Singh became the brand ambassador of Durex in the year 2014. During this time, he also talked openly about sex education. In an interview given to GQ India, Ranveer had told that he himself had prepared the concept of Durex advertisement.

Ranveer had said, “I called Durex myself and said I want to work with them. No big celebrity endorses a condom brand, but I thought, why don’t I do it?”

During the interview, Ranveer also said that he was using Durex since the age of 12. When asked who does this at the age of 12, Ranveer humorously replied, “A 14-year-old girl!”

Ranveer kissed Vaani 23 times in ‘Befikre’

A total of 23 kissing scenes were shot between Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor in the film ‘Befikre’. In November 2016, when both of them reached ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ (Episode 63) for the promotion of their film, there was a lot of laughter in the show regarding these 23 kissing scenes.

During the conversation, Ranveer also narrated an interesting incident from the shooting. He had said, “During the shooting, I was tired while kissing Vaani.”

Ranveer told that while shooting so many kissing scenes continuously, all this had become a part of everyday life for him. Sometimes the shot had to be given from the right side, sometimes from the left side, then a retake… within no time the whole process had become like a routine.

At the same time, Vaani had said that there came a time when she did not care about these scenes. Both of them had become so comfortable that many times they would start shooting immediately after having food without any special preparation.

In the film Befikre, Ranveer Singh played the role of Dharam Gulati and Vaani Kapoor played the role of Shayra Gill.

Raza Murad slapped Ranveer 24 times for a scene in ‘Padmaavat’

During the shooting of the film ‘Padmavat’, Raza Murad had to slap Ranveer Singh in a scene. Usually such scenes are completed in one or two takes, but director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for his detail and perfection. Therefore, to film this scene in the best possible manner, he got several retakes done.

Raza Murad had to slap Ranveer in every retake. The result was that Ranveer received 24 slaps for this one scene. Ultimately the scene was okayed, but the redness on Ranveer’s cheeks did not go away for a long time.

‘Dhurandhar 2’ was shot in 48 degree heat wearing leather jacket and wig

Ranveer’s blockbuster films ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar 2’ created history at the Indian box office. Both the films created a new record by earning more than ₹3000 crore worldwide. But behind these powerful scenes seen on screen, Ranveer’s hard work and dedication was hidden.

Shooting the climax of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ was no less than a challenge. Ranveer shot continuously in the scorching heat of 47-48 degrees, with metal containers burning all around, wearing a heavy Pathani suit, leather jacket and a wig on his head.

Make-up and prosthetic artist Karandeep Singh had told that it took 15 to 20 days to prepare for this climax scene alone, including rehearsals. Ranveer also had to jump over burning containers in this action sequence, shot on the outskirts of Ludhiana.

The conditions were so difficult that it was not easy for the entire team to even eat food. Despite this, Ranveer completed every scene with full dedication and lots of energy without any complaints.

Ranveer Singh has played the role of an Indian spy in the Dhurandhar franchise. Whereas both the parts have been directed by Aditya Dhar.
