Modi-Trump met at the Utrecht session of the G7 summit. Both of them shook hands.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of deaths of Indians in the Strait of Hormuz on the first day of the G-7 summit held in Evian, France. In the outreach session, Modi said- Many Indian citizens have also lost their lives. The safety of sailors connecting countries through global maritime trade is our responsibility.
Modi said that we welcome the progress towards peace in West Asia. This conflict has resulted in loss of life and property in our friendly countries in the region. The disruption in maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz has also had a negative impact on the global economy.
President Donald Trump was also present in the session and was sitting near PM Modi. At the same time, there will be a bilateral meeting of Modi-Trump today at 6:30 pm. According to the White House, issues related to tariffs, investment and strategic partnership can be discussed between India and America.
At the outreach session of the G7 summit in Evian, PM Modi addressed world leaders on the issue of ‘building new partnerships and reinvigorating international solidarity’.
Modi attended high level working session
The session which PM Modi attended was a high level working session. Its theme was ‘building new partnerships and reestablishing international solidarity’. Leaders of G7 countries, leaders of allied countries and key representatives of the World Bank and African Development Bank participated in this session.

Actually, PM Modi has attended the G-7 summit organized in Evian city of France. The PM had arrived here from Slovakia on Tuesday. PM had met Trump. Seeing PM Modi, Trump stood up from his seat and shook hands with him. After this there was talk between the two for about 5 minutes.
This was PM Modi’s first meeting with Trump after Washington in February last year. India-US relations have been quite volatile during the last 16 months. Modi- Meloni meeting

Leaders of 12 countries are participating in the G7 summit
The G7 summit will be attended by leaders of its member countries Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and America. Apart from this, representatives of European Union are also participating in it. Apart from the G7 countries, France has also invited leaders of many other countries to the summit.
These include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Brazilian President Luiz, Nacio Lula da Silva, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Kenyan President William Ruto.
What is G7, which countries are in it?
G7 i.e. ‘Group of Seven’, is a group of 7 countries of the world, which are called ‘modern economy’ countries of the world. These include America, France, Britain, Japan, Italy, Canada and Germany.
It debuted in 1975 as the G6. It became the G7 after Canada joined in 1976. In 1998, Russia was included and renamed G8, but in 2014 it was expelled from the group after Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea region. After this it again started being called G7.
India guest nation in G7, PM attends for the 7th time
India is not a member of the G7, but is often called a special invitee nation (guest nation) due to its leading economy and important global role. Usually the Prime Minister of India gets an invitation to the summit.
East Prime Minister Manmohan Singh participated in the G7 (earlier G8) summits five times between 2005 and 2013. PM Modi was first invited to the G7 summit held in Biarritz, France in 2019.
The US was to host in 2020, but then canceled the summit. After this, PM Modi virtually participated in the conference hosted by Britain in 2021.
Apart from this, Modi attended the G7 summit held in Germany in 2022, Japan in 2023, Italy in 2024 and Canada in 2025.
What is G7 Summit, what is the special thing on its agenda this time?
G7 summit is held every year to discuss a fixed agenda, which is organized by the country chairing the G7. Actually, all the 7 countries of G7 preside over it in turn.
This year France is presiding. In such a situation, the G7 summit is being held in Evian city of France. The agenda of this summit includes issues of geopolitics crises (Ukraine war, Iran-Israel tensions, situation in Gaza, Lebanon and the Hormuz Route, security challenges of the Middle East), global economic cooperation and imbalances and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Apart from this, leaders and officials of G7 member countries hold several meetings a year, in which many agreements are made and official statements are issued on major world events.
Initially the agenda of the G7 was to find solutions to issues like economic challenges and climate change. Later political and security related issues also got involved. The decisions of the G7 on global issues impact the entire world.
For example, the G7 created the Global Fund to fight malaria and AIDS in 2002. Provided economic help to countries like Indonesia and Thailand during the financial crisis in 1998. Decided to impose strict sanctions on Russia and help Ukraine during the Russia-Ukraine war.
How is G7 different from G20
The G7 has no permanent office and its member states cannot pass any international laws. The biggest issue in the G20 is the world economy, while political issues are also important for the G7. Apart from the G7 countries, BRICS countries are also included in the G20 formed in 1999.
Apart from India, these countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey and the European Union. According to Rajan Kumar, countries with new and growing economies have also been included in G20.
Even though the agenda of G7 and G20 is similar, at present G20 is the more effective group. In 2020, US President Trump also called G7 a very outdated group.
