PM Modi held a joint press conference with Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni today. During this he said that I thank PM Meloni for welcoming me and my delegation. He invited Georgia Meloni to visit India.

  4. We have set a target to increase the trade between India and Italy to 20 billion euros by 2029. We have decided to create an Innovation Center in New Delhi, which will increase startup and research collaboration.
  5. India and Italy are currently working together on a new partnership plan for 2025-2029. Trade between the two countries is expected to reach around $16.77 billion by 2025. At the same time, from April 2000 to September 2025, Italy has invested $3.66 billion in India.
  6. Partnership between the two countries will be strengthened in areas like advanced manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, space, defence, critical minerals, agriculture, maritime transport, tourism and culture. For this there will be signing of many MoUs.
  7. The Defense Industrial Roadmap of India and Italy has opened the way for joint development and production of defense equipment between the two countries. Being a maritime power, cooperation in the field of connectivity between the two countries is natural.
  8. Both the countries have also decided to celebrate 2027 as ‘Italy-India Year of Culture and Tourism’, so that the old cultures of the two countries can come closer.

Meloni and Modi held delegation level talks

PM Modi held delegation-level talks with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni in Rome on Wednesday. This meeting is part of the last leg of Modi’s five-nation tour.

Before the meeting, Meloni said that relations between India and Italy have now reached a “decisive phase”. He said that the relations between the two countries have evolved from friendship to a special strategic partnership, which is based on the philosophy of democracy, freedom and a shared future.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani were also present in the meeting. Before this, Prime Minister Modi also met Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

Issues like trade, investment, culture, AI, space, critical minerals and nuclear energy were discussed between the two leaders. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders also shared views on the regional and global situation.
