This AI video was shared by US President Trump’s Republican Party.
The use of AI in political campaigning has increased rapidly before the midterm elections in America. Candidates and political organizations have spent around Rs 1,300 crore on advertising based on AI.
In one advertisement, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hokul were shown selling a medicine to remove the fear of inflation and crime. Besides, AI is also being used to show larger crowd in many election rallies.

This ad featuring New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul was created with AI.
Trump’s party remains 80% AI ads
An investigation by America’s Wesleyan University has identified more than 220 videos in which AI was used.
- Nearly half of these advertisements showed AI-generated faces or videos of real leaders.
- More than 80% of the ads were created by Republican candidates or political groups affiliated with them.
- In 69% of the advertisements, no information was given that AI was used in them.
Professor Erica Franklin Fowler of the Wesleyan Media Project said,
In many advertisements, AI was used so clearly that without any knowledge it may be difficult to identify that AI has been used in the video.

Its purpose- to defame the opponents
Some AI-generated advertisements featured political opponents with leaders whose association could create controversy among voters. These include leaders of the Democratic Party like Hillary Clinton and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
A group in Oklahoma called ‘Make Oklahoma Great Again’ showed the Democratic gubernatorial candidate embracing Hillary Clinton.
The video showed the two holding hands, while President Donald Trump stood sad on the sidelines. It was written on the screen, ‘Supporter of Clinton, opponent of Trump.’

Information about the use of AI was not given in this advertisement. (AI generated)
According to AdImpact, an advertising monitoring company, the group spent more than $2 lakh, or about Rs 1.7 crore, on promoting this advertisement during TV programs in Oklahoma.
Democrat leader shown laughing at card made on 9/11 attacks
Another ad featured an AI-generated video of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic Senate candidate from Michigan. In this, he was seen laughing after seeing cards written ‘Death to America’ and ‘Celebrate 9/11 attacks’.
At the same time, an advertisement by James Fishbach, Republican candidate for governor of Florida, showed him partying with Democratic MP Ilhan Omar and leaders of Iran. The video showed Iranian leaders attacking the ‘Star of David’, a symbol of Judaism, with swords.
The use of AI in political advertisements is not limited to just creating fake events. The beginning of an ad for Republican candidate Chip Keaton of Oklahoma featured an old original photo of him.
This photo was from the time when he was a police officer in Oklahoma. With the help of AI, his head was shown rising in the picture and a big smile appeared on his face.

Republican candidate Chip Keaton made a video of his old photo generated by AI.
With the help of AI, advertisements which were made for 19 crores are being made for 1 crore.
Fred N., founder of Hollywood advertising company Strategic Perception. According to Davis, AI is significantly reducing the cost of creating advertisements.
Giving the example of an advertisement, he said that making it in the traditional way would have cost around Rs 19 crore.
It would have required a whole day’s shooting with hundreds of actors, arrangement of clothes, food, drinks and camera-lighting. But the cost of creating the same scene with the help of AI has come down to around Rs 1.8 crore.
Now AI can create such advertisements in less time and less expense. Many times the audience does not even realize that the incident shown in the video is not real.
Democratic candidates more cautious in use of AI
Democratic candidates are more cautious than Republican candidates about the use of AI. One reason for this is that supporters of the Democratic Party criticize this technology more and demand making rules on it.
Washington State University professor and project co-director Travis N. Ridout said there is a greater risk of damaging the image of Democratic candidates and organizations using AI, as they themselves are seeking to create rules to control this technology.
