PM Modi will not give a speech in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this year. Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar will speak.
This is the third time in the last 10 years when PM Modi will not give a speech in UNGA. Earlier, he did not attend the UN meeting in 2016 and 2018.
According to the list released by UN, PM Modi first had to speak here, but now Jaishankar will speak for India. Earlier, Jaishankar represented India in the 78th and 79th sessions of UNGA in 2023 and 2024.
Jaishankar can speak on issues of India’s zero-tolerance policy and global South against terrorism like last time.

1. Zero tolerance against terrorism– Proceedings of terrorism and terrorism can criticize countries across the border.
2. Issues of Global South countries- Emphasis on challenges faced by developing countries such as Ukraine-Russia and Israel-Hamas Jung and Climate Crisis.
3. United Nations Reform: Improvement in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and advocating India’s permanent membership.
4. Climate Change and Sustainable Development- Developed countries can speak on what effect climate change and developed countries have it.
5. Global economy and crisis- Need cooperation on global issues such as food, fuel and fertilizer crisis. AI governance, mental health, and Rohingya crisis India’s view.
Jaishankar attended the meeting of BRICS countries yesterday
Jaishankar attended the meeting of BRICS countries on the sidelines of UNGA session late last night. In this, he said that many countries in the world are implementing high taxes and stringent rules to save their markets, which is making international trade difficult, so there is a need to protect the BRICS business system.
Jaishankar said that the current global situation is not good. At such a time, the BRICS should give the message of peace, conversation, diplomacy and international law to be given more strongly.
This statement of Jaishankar has come at a time when America has imposed 50% tariff on India. This is the highest in the world. Jaishankar also appealed to BRICS countries to unite and raise their voice for major improvements in the UNSC.
