A few days after the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) also announced a complete ban on Pakistani actors and artistes in the Indian film industry. 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives in this attack.

Tension increased between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in 2025. After this, the Indian government banned Pakistani films, web series, songs and podcasts.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered the removal of Pakistani content from platforms like OTT and YouTube under the IT Act 2021.

Apart from this, social media accounts of many Pakistani artists were also temporarily blocked in India. These included artists like Mahira Khan and Hania Aamir.
