Monsoon has gained momentum in many states of the country. It is raining heavily in Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal and Odisha. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for these states.
Many areas were flooded due to heavy rains in Junagadh, Gujarat. IMD has advised fishermen not to go into the sea till July 8. In Navsari, a deep pit was formed in the middle of the bridge built on Ambika river, due to which contact with 11 villages was lost.
Following continuous rain in Mumbai and surrounding areas, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared holiday in schools and colleges in the afternoon. 64 incidents of trees falling and 8 incidents of house-wall collapse were reported. Three people were injured when a two-storey house collapsed in Banewadi area of Byculla.
A six-year-old child died after being swept away in flood waters in Palghar district adjacent to Mumbai. At the same time, more than 180 people were evacuated safely from waterlogged areas.
Rain in Kanpur, UP broke the record of 15 years. On July 3, 108 mm rainfall was recorded here. Earlier, on July 1, 2011, there was 101 mm rainfall.

Lightning struck in MP, one person died
In Madhya Pradesh, there was heavy rain in more than 20 districts including Bhopal on Saturday. Father died due to lightning in Sheopur district, while daughter got burnt. Two children died due to drowning in Bapcha Donia village of Ashta.
JCB and its two employees got trapped in the strong current of the river due to rise in the water level of Mandakini river in Kedarghati located in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand.
Due to continuous rains in Jammu and Kashmir, a major landslide occurred near Kaugha on Ramnagar-Udhampur road. Due to this, big stones and debris came on the road, due to which the road was closed.

- Red alert has been issued in 2 districts of West Bengal and Orange alert has been issued in 3 districts.
- In Odisha, red alert has been issued for 5 districts and orange alert for eight other districts.
7th July
- There is also a warning of heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha.
- There will be heavy rain in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim.
- There is an orange alert of rain in areas close to the sea in Sikkim, Goa, Telangana and Karnataka.
