The passion to conquer Mount Everest is at its peak these days in Solukhumbu district (Everest Region) of Nepal. This season, a record 492 climbers from 55 countries are trying to conquer Everest. Among these, maximum number of 109 climbers are from China and 61 are from India.

This time a record 101 women climbers are also part of this challenge. This year, the journey from base camp to the summit has to be completed in five days between 17th and 21st May. About 1,000 people, including climbers and Sherpa guides, are heading towards the peak. This time the pressure on the Nepal route has increased further due to the closure of China’s northern route to Tibet.

At the beginning of the season this year, a huge iceberg in the Khumbu Icefall had stopped the climb, but as soon as the route opened, the expedition gained momentum. Amidst this crowd, 56-year-old Kami Rita Sherpa broke her own world record by conquering Everest for the 32nd time. At the same time, 52-year-old Lakhpa Sherpa strengthened the record of most Everest climbs by a woman by touching the summit for the 11th time. Let us tell you that on an average, the Nepal government issues more than 400 permits every year. This time Nepal has increased the permit fees of foreign climbers by 36%. This year the fees is around Rs 9 lakh.
