Congress MLC from Maharashtra Bhai Jagtap had given a controversial statement regarding the Election Commission on Friday.

After the results of Maharashtra elections, Congress is continuously raising questions on the Election Commission and EVMs. On Friday, Congress MLC Bhai Jagtap gave a controversial statement regarding the Election Commission.

While talking to news agency IANS, Jagtap said – Election Commission is a dog, who sits outside PM Modi’s bungalow. Unfortunately, all the agencies that have been created to strengthen democracy are being used to create scandals across the country.

On Jagtap’s statement, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Saturday said – This is an insult to the constitutional body. It won’t be tolerated. I have filed a complaint against Jagtap with the Election Commission and Mumbai Police.

Jagtap refused to apologize, said – whatever he said was correct

Jagtap refused to apologize for his controversial remarks. Jagtap said that the country’s democracy has been discredited due to the flattery of the Election Commission. On the dog comment, he said, I will not apologize at all. If they are working under pressure from the Prime Minister and other ministers then what I have said is correct.

The Election Commission is there to further strengthen the democracy of the country, not to serve anyone. I stand by my words. Jagtap further said that Congress brought EVM technology because it was being used in France and America, but after 2009, doubts started arising over its use.

Congress objects to Maharashtra election results, writes letter to Election Commission Congress on Friday itself alleged serious negligence in the voting-counting process of Maharashtra Assembly elections. The party wrote a letter to the Election Commission and demanded a personal hearing.

Congress raised these issues in the letter

  • Voters were added and removed arbitrarily. Due to this, about 47 lakh new voters were included in the voter list in Maharashtra between July 2024 and November 2024.
  • On an average, 50 thousand new voters were added in 50 assembly constituencies, out of which the ruling alliance and its allies won 47 seats.
  • By 5 pm on November 21, 2024, the voting percentage in Maharashtra was 58.22%, which increased to 65.02% by 11:30 pm. The final report recorded 66.05% voting. Which was announced several hours before the counting started. About 76 lakh votes were cast in one hour i.e. between 5 pm and 6 pm.

Election Commission said – there is no discrepancy in the data, Congress leaders should come and meet. In response to Congress’s allegations of manipulation in the voting figures, the Election Commission on Saturday said that there is no irregularity in the voting figures. The Election Commission also called the Congress delegation to meet on 3 December.

Regarding the difference between the voting data at 5 pm and the final voting data, the Election Commission said that the Presiding Officer completes other necessary actions related to the end of voting before updating the voting data. Due to which the final voting data is updated late.
