The West Bengal government has handed over 142.79 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) on the India-Bangladesh border for fencing. CM Shubhendu Adhikari said in a social media post on Wednesday that the state government is working rapidly to strengthen border security. Under this, construction of BSF posts and wire fencing is being promoted.
The Bengal government, in its first cabinet meeting held on May 11, had decided to give 600 acres of land to BSF for border security and infrastructure within 45 days. In the first phase, on May 20, approval orders for 43 acres of land and 31.9 acres of wasted land in five districts were handed over to BSF.
West Bengal shares a 2,217 km long border with Bangladesh, the longest of any Indian state. According to the Chief Minister, so far fencing has been done on about 1,600 km border in the state, while about 600 km stretch is still without fence.

Air India flight going to San Francisco returned midway

An Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco returned midway on Wednesday after a technical glitch. The plane returned safely to New Delhi Airport after being in the air for about eight hours.
According to Air India, flight AI173, which was operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, was carrying about 230 passengers. The flight had taken off from Delhi to San Francisco, but when a technical problem surfaced during the flight, it was decided to bring the plane back to Delhi as per safety standards.
Expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to the passengers, the company said that the ground staff is providing facilities to the passengers like refreshments, hotel stay and re-scheduling as per requirement.
Smuggling network busted in Mysuru, 4.058 kg elephant tusks recovered

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a smuggling network in Mysuru, Karnataka. During the operation, 4.058 kg tusks (ivory) of Indian elephant have been recovered. Three people have been arrested in the case.
According to the statement issued by DRI, the Indian elephant has been placed in Schedule-1 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Under this law, there is a complete ban on trade in elephants and their related products. The seized ivory was seized under this provision.
DRI said that the agency has dismantled many illegal networks related to wildlife trafficking in recent years and continuous action is being taken against such rackets.
25 year old youth beaten to death by a mob in Delhi

A 25-year-old youth was beaten to death by a mob in Kanjhawala, Delhi on Tuesday morning. According to the police, the youth was caught trying to steal from a house, after which the mob attacked him.
