CBI i.e. Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday succeeded in bringing back the most wanted gangster Lakhwinder Kumar from America to India in an important international operation. This action has been taken in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Lakhwinder was said to be associated with the gang of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who has been involved in criminal activities in the country for the last few years.

Haryana Police had registered a case against Lakhwinder Kumar in many serious cases like extortion, threat, possession of illegal weapons and attempt to murder. This operation is the result of a year-long legal process and international coordination. On the request of Haryana Police, on October 26, 2024, Interpol through CBI had issued a red notice against gangster Lakhwinder Kumar.

Since then, the process of his location and legal deportation was started with American agencies. Eventually, the US authorities deported him and he reached India on 25 October 2025. A special team of Haryana Police was already present at Delhi Airport, which took him into custody as soon as he landed. India’s National Central Bureau played an important role in this operation.

National Central Bureau of India (NCB-Interpol India) i.e. BHARATPOL works to connect and coordinate all the law enforcement agencies of India through Interpol channels. Red Notices issued by Interpol are international circulars that are sent to all law enforcement agencies in the world so that wanted fugitives can be tracked and arrested.

According to CBI, increased coordination through Interpol channels in India has led to the repatriation of more than 130 wanted criminals from different countries in the last few years. This is a major achievement in India’s global law enforcement cooperation. Lakhwinder’s bringing to India is not just an arrest, but is being considered a symbol of India’s growing credibility in international policing against organized crime.
