Prime Minister Modi visited Ukraine on a one-day visit on 23 August.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the second peace conference for peace in Ukraine should be held in India. Zelensky has also spoken to PM Modi for this. In fact, Ukraine is trying to have the second peace conference in the Global South countries.

Talking to Indian journalists, Zelensky said that apart from India, talks are also going on with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Switzerland for organizing the second peace conference. Zelensky said that the peace conference will be held in the country which is interested in it.

Earlier, the first Ukraine peace conference was held in Switzerland in June, in which Russia did not participate. Now Ukraine is insisting on holding a peace summit once again to put forward its conditions for peace and to include representatives from Russia in it.

India did not sign the Ukraine Peace Summit
A two-day (15-16 June) peace conference was organized in Switzerland to find a way to stop the Ukraine war. Ukraine had invited more than 160 countries to attend the conference but only about 90 countries participated in it. Some countries including Russia, China and Brazil did not participate in it.

On the last day of the summit, a joint statement was issued which was signed by more than 80 countries. However, 7 countries including India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico and UAE did not do so. Interestingly, Turkey, which has often taken the side of Russia, also signed it.

Modi invited Zelensky to visit India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on Friday amid the two and a half year long war between Russia and Ukraine. In a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky here, Modi said, “India has always been in favour of peace. I met Russian President Putin a few days ago. Then I said to him face to face in front of the media that this is not the time for war.”

Modi and Zelensky had a meeting for about 3 hours at the Mariinsky Palace in Ukraine. He invited Zelensky to visit India. Earlier, Modi along with Zelensky reached the Ukraine National Museum, where he paid tribute to the children killed in the war. He also placed a doll at the children’s memorial.

‘Territorial integrity is most important for India’
On his Ukraine visit, PM Modi said, “Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is most important for India. PM Modi said that India is ready to play an active role in every effort for peace. If I can personally contribute anything, then as a friend, I would definitely like to do so.
