India has taken a tough stance after the anti-India protests in Bangladesh and the brutal murder of a Hindu youth. In view of the security situation, India has currently closed visa services at its Assistant High Commission in Chittagong.
In Chittagong, a mob reached near the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner on Thursday and also pelted stones. Apart from this, anti-India slogans were raised on a large scale outside Indian offices in Khulna, Rajshahi and Dhaka.
After these incidents, India decided to temporarily stop visa services in Chittagong in view of the safety of its employees and offices. The Indian Visa Application Center has said that there will be no visa processing there from December 21 until further notice.
India also raised the issue of murder of Hindu youth
This issue heated up when protests started at many places in Bangladesh after the death of anti-India leader Sharif Usman Hadi. During these demonstrations, 25-year-old Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by the mob in Mymensingh area and then his body was burnt.
Deepu used to work in a textile factory. India’s Foreign Ministry has described this murder as very gruesome. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has demanded from the interim government of Bangladesh that the culprits of this murder should be punished as soon as possible.
He said that India is extremely concerned about the attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh and is closely monitoring the situation.
