India’s stockpile of nuclear weapons has increased from 180 to 190. This has been stated in the latest report of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). According to SIPRI report, India has deployed 12 nuclear weapons on the front for the first time. Meanwhile, the country’s military expenditure in 2025 will be $92.1 billion, making it the fifth largest military spender in the world.
According to the report, India did not deploy a single nuclear warhead in the year 2025. But, 12 nuclear weapons have been deployed in 2026. There has been no increase in Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. It currently has 170 nuclear weapons.

Emphasis on capacity to reach entire China
According to the report, India is focusing on long-range weapons so that it can reach the entire China. India is simultaneously trying to maintain a balanced strategic capability on both the China and Pakistan fronts.
India is also working on a new nuclear delivery system. The most important among these is MIRV technology. Through this, a single ballistic missile can carry multiple nuclear warheads and target different targets.

Nuclear power increased in the sea also
India’s maritime nuclear capability has also been described as very important in the report. India’s nuclear submarines, especially INS Arihant, are now forming the bulk of the country’s “second strike capability”.
SIPRI estimates that India has now started deploying a limited number of nuclear weapons on ballistic missile submarines even in peacetime. Due to this, the ability to retaliate remains intact even after the first attack of the enemy.

China is developing the DF-1 intercontinental ballistic missile, which has a range of 12,000 to 15,000 km.
Number of nuclear warheads in the world
According to SIPRI Year 2026, the world is entering a new era of nuclear competition. All nuclear rich countries including America, Russia, China, India, Pakistan are rapidly upgrading their weapons and delivery systems.
At the beginning of the year 2026, nine countries of the world, America, Russia, Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel, have a total of 12,187 nuclear warheads. Out of these, 9745 warheads are in the army’s warehouse which are completely ready for use.
Three countries to retire nuclear weapons
According to the report, only three countries, America, Russia and France have retired nuclear weapons. America has removed a total of 1342 warheads, Russia 1020 and France 80 warheads. Israel has a stockpile of 90 weapons. There has been no increase or decrease in this.
