New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum has been the coach of the England Test team since May 2022.
England has appointed Test team head coach Brendon McCullum as the coach of the ODI and T20 team. McCullum will take charge before the Champions Trophy in January next year. The team will play its first series under his coaching in the form of 5 T20 matches in India.
McCullum was appointed England’s Test coach in May 2022, seeing the good results, the board extended his tenure till 2027. Now he will also coach the team in ODIs.
Will replace Matthew Mott
Marcus Trescothick will be England’s interim ODI coach against Australia and West Indies. Before him, Matthew Mott was the team’s ODI and T20 coach. McCullum will take over the responsibility from January 2025. Mott was England’s permanent ODI and T20 coach, now McCullum will replace him.

England won their first ODI World Cup in 2019. The team has not been able to win the Champions Trophy so far.
McCullum will take a break after the Sri Lanka series
McCullum is currently in England, the team is playing a 3 test series against Sri Lanka. England has taken a 2-0 lead in the series. The third test will start from September 6. After the series against Sri Lanka, McCullum will take a break and go to New Zealand. McCullum will then join the team directly in October. The team will go to Pakistan in October to play a test series. England will then play a 3 test series against New Zealand in December.
The decision was taken due to poor performance in the ODI World Cup
After winning the 2019 ODI World Cup, England was expected to perform well in the 2023 ODI World Cup as well. But the team could not make it to the semi-finals after losing to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The team somehow managed to finish 7th in the points table, due to which they also qualified for the Champions Trophy.
The England team could not defend its T20 World Cup title again in 2024. The team did make it to the semi-finals, but had to be eliminated after losing to India. India also won the tournament title by defeating South Africa.

The England team was ranked 7th in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Series against India in January
The series of 5 T20 and 3 ODIs between India and England will start in January-February next year. The first 4 T20s will be played on 22, 25, 28 and 31 January. The fifth T20 will be played on 2 February. There will be 3 ODIs on 6, 9 and 12 February. The Champions Trophy will start again in Pakistan from 19 February. The tournament will be played till 9 March.
