The interim government of Bangladesh has ordered to open a long -closed vault of a State Bank of Dhaka. This vault was sealed 117 years ago (in 1908).
In this vault, ‘Dary-e-Noor’, one of the world’s most precious gems, is expected to be closed. However, now It is not clear whether this diamond is there or not, because it has not been seen for decades.
Dariya-e-Noor is called ‘Sister of Kohinoor’. Kohinoor is currently present in Britain. Both diamonds were taken from India. Currently, the price of Dariya-e-Noor is estimated at around 13 million dollars (about 114.5 crore rupees).

Daria-e-Noor from India’s Golconda mine
Darya-e-Noor, which means ‘river of beauty’. It is a 26 carat diamond, known for its rectangular, flat surface (table-cut).
According to Bangladesh newspaper The Business Standard, the diamond came out of the mines in South India, from where the world famous Kohinoor diamond was also found.
This diamond is inaugurated in the center of a golden bracelet (armlet), around which there are ten small diamonds (about 5 carats each).
The specialty of this diamond is not only its beauty, but also its historical significance. This diamond was with the Maratha kings of India, Mughal emperors and Sikh rulers. It passed with many hands during British rule.
Is Daria-e-Noor still in Bangladesh?
This question remains a mystery even today. According to media reports, it is likely to be in the vault of Sonali Bank in Bangladesh, which is probably closed since 1908.
According to The Business Standard, the vault was last opened in 1985 and then the diamond was confirmed. But in 2017 there were reports that this diamond has disappeared.
However, Sonali Bank officials said that they never saw this diamond. Khwaja Naeem Murad, the great -grandson of Dhaka’s Nawab Salimullah, told AFP that he expects to see this diamond.
The Nawab’s sons said- 108 was kept with other treasures
Naeem Murad said, ‘This is not a fairy tale. This diamond is rectangular and there are many small diamonds around it. ‘ According to him, this diamond was placed in the vault with 108 other treasures, including a gold-silver sword, a diamond-studded phase (hat), and the star brooch of a French Queen.
Sonali Bank Managing Director Shaukat Ali Khan told AFP, ‘The vault is sealed. Many years ago an investigation team came, but he did not open the vault completely, only saw its door.

Team formed to check diamonds
The interim government of Bangladesh has recently constituted an 11-member committee, which is being led by Cabinet Secretary.
This committee will examine the status of jewelery and treasures present in the vault.
Speculation of Dariya-e-Noor to reach Bangladesh during partition
The question still remains whether this diamond is actually in the vault? Many people believe that this diamond may have been lost in 1947 during the partition of India or during the freedom struggle of Bangladesh in 1971. Later it has reached Bangladesh.
Just like this, a diamond with a name is currently kept in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Its color is light pink, it is different from Dary-e-Noor in Bangladesh.
