Border fencing work is going on at a fast pace on the India-Bangladesh border. Three residents of Satgram Manbari area of Mathabhanga I block of Cooch Behar district have voluntarily donated 33 decimal land to ease the fencing work on the India-Bangladesh border.
They say that due to lack of fencing of the border, there has been continuous infiltration and smuggling from here. This also causes damage to their crops.
Bikash Rai, who donated the land, said that he has donated the land for the welfare of the village and the security of the country. He stressed that fencing would prevent infiltrators from crossing the border. Praising this initiative of the Central Government, he said that after the completion of the fencing work, both the village and the country will become safe.
This person said, “We have given 20 decimels of land. We have given this land so that we can be safe and secure and our country can also be safe. That’s what I mean. It is a good thing and it should happen. Earlier when there was no fence, bangladeshEvery citizen used to come here. They used to come at night and steal cattle and also take away our belongings. Similarly, infiltration also took place. It will become much easier once the fence is installed.”

He said that after the fencing is installed, people living in the border areas will get better security. He further said that earlier smuggling and theft used to happen on a large scale here because there was no barbed wire fence in this area.
He said, “Earlier, there used to be a lot of problems because people used to come here from that side. Also, theft and smuggling activities used to happen on a large scale. If this fencing work is completed, the security of India will be completely ensured and we will feel safe. The farmers here and people living close to the border will also get better security. And this is not just a matter of local security; it is a matter of security of our entire country, India. So fencing is very important.”
BJP leader Amit Maldiya said that local Hindus are donating their land to BSF voluntarily, so that the work of fencing the border can be completed as soon as possible. People living near the border are fed up with smugglers, illegal infiltrators and the complete breakdown of border security. They want the fencing work to be completed without any delay.
He said that former CM Mamata Banerjee had claimed that the local people were not ready to give their land and her government did not want to force them. But the ground reality is exactly the opposite. The local people are not opposing the fencing, rather they are completely supporting it. Mamata Banerjee wanted the border to remain open to smugglers and Bangladeshi vote-bank politics.
