In Bangladesh, preparations are being made to remove the picture of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the currency notes. According to the Dhaka Tribune, the Bangladesh Central Bank is printing new notes bearing images of the violent July protests. New bank notes of 20, 100, 500 and 1,000 taka are being printed on the instructions of the interim government.
The newspaper quoted the bank as saying that the new notes will not have Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s picture. Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Husnera Shikha said-

The new notes will include religious structures, Bengali traditions and photographs taken during the July rebellion. I hope that the new note can be released in the market within the next six months.

According to the newspaper, bank and finance ministry officials said that the existing picture of Sheikh Mujib would be removed from the notes. Initially the design of four notes is being changed. The rest will be changed in different phases.
The Finance Institute Division of the Finance Ministry had submitted a detailed design proposal for the new notes in September.

The interim government had also canceled 8 government holidays related to independence and founding days.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first President of Bangladesh. He was also the Prime Minister of the country from 17 April 1971 to 15 August 1975. He also played a big role in getting independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated at his home on 15 August 1975.
