Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta passed away in Kolkata on Wednesday. According to police, he had fallen from the terrace of his multi-storey house in South Kolkata. He was immediately taken to a private hospital near Dhakuria, where doctors declared him dead.
After this incident, a team of Kolkata Police has started investigating the matter. After receiving the news of the director’s demise, many actors of Bengali cinema including Srilekha Mitra and Rudranil Ghosh reached the hospital.
Taken to hospital after falling from roof According to news agency PTI, a senior police officer said that Anik Dutta had fallen from the roof of his house under suspicious circumstances. However, till now no official statement has come from his family in this matter.
Police have reached the spot and are investigating closely. The people of Bengali film industry are shocked by his sudden departure. Actresses Sreelekha Mitra, Rudranil Ghosh and Arindam Sil were seen outside the hospital, who had come to bid their last farewell to the director.

In this film, along with the horror story, there was a strong satire on the political and social system. This film is considered a milestone in Bengali cinema.

Film made on Satyajit Ray gets two National Awards Anik Dutta had made a film based on the story of the making of famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s historical film ‘Pather Panchali’. This biographical drama film received two National Awards in the year 2024. The film received National Awards for Best Makeup (Somnath Kundu) and Best Production Design (Anand Aadhya).
On receiving the National Award, Anik Dutta had said in a conversation with Hindustan Times that he himself has been on the jury and knows how decisions are taken. He praised the hard work of his crew members Somnath and Anand.
The last film was released last year Director Anik Dutta’s last directorial film ‘Jato Kando Kolkatatei’ was released in theaters in the year 2025 on the occasion of Durga Puja. It was a spy mystery thriller film. Abir Chatterjee, Kazi Naushaba Ahmed and Dulal Lahiri played the lead roles in this film. Anik Dutta was known for his precise use of social message, suspense and satire in his films.
