In France, investigation has started into cases of women making videos without permission through smart glasses. Some people on social media were making videos of women on the street and posting them on the internet. Complaints of sexual harassment have been received regarding this.
A small camera is installed in these glasses. The wearer can make videos without taking out the mobile. This is the reason why there is increasing concern in many countries of the world regarding their misuse.
Among these smart glasses, Meta glasses are the most popular. Meta has created these glasses in collaboration with eyeglass manufacturing company EssilorLuxottica. Last year, around 70 lakh spectacles were sold.

One year jail rule for making private videos in France
According to Reuters report, Paris Police said that a criminal investigation has been launched in this matter. However, the police did not reveal which company’s glasses were used to make the video of the women.
The cyber crime team of the police tried these glasses themselves two weeks ago. The police wanted to find out what kind of wrongdoings could be done by them.
In France, there is a provision of imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of up to 45 thousand euros for taking a picture or video of a person in his private place without permission.
Concern about women being targeted more
According to human rights organizations, women are especially being targeted in the misuse of smart glasses.
Ines Girard, who works for women’s rights, said that the solution cannot be to ask the person being recorded to be more careful.
He says that companies making smart glasses should also ensure that their technology is not used to harass people or violate their privacy.
Questions on smart glasses in other countries too
Germany: Criminal complaints have been filed against Meta and several companies related to smart glasses.
America: A person had secretly recorded videos of people inside the detention centre. After this, American security agencies expressed concern about this.
Britain: The use of Meta’s smart glasses with cameras is banned in the courts of England and Wales. Some theaters have also banned their use due to fear of piracy.
Norway: The use of smart glasses has been banned in schools due to the privacy of students.
Australia: The government is considering banning smart glasses with cameras in government offices.
Amazon is also using it for delivery.
Smart glasses are not being used just for making videos. Amazon is also preparing to use such glasses in delivery work.
The company is making such glasses with the help of which delivery workers will be able to scan the package without taking out their mobile, can see the path and can take a picture of the goods after delivery.
Glasses can also give alerts if there is a dog or any other obstacle on the way. Amazon has tested these glasses with delivery workers.

Meta can bring smart glasses without camera
Amidst the privacy questions being raised regarding smart glasses, Meta is preparing to launch a new glasses which will not have a camera. According to the report, its name could be Luna.
These glasses will have six microphones and speakers near the ears. Through these the user will be able to talk to Meta’s AI. That means there will be no need for a camera to use AI.
A separate button can also be provided to turn on AI in the glasses. It will look just like normal glasses. Meta can bring it in new designs named Clubmaster and Burbank.
According to the report, Meta may announce this in its developer event to be held from September 23. Its sales are said to start at the end of this year.
