Imran Khan met his sister last month

In August 2026, following the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi and his wife Bushra Bibi visited him in Adiala jail. Noreen met Imran after about 9 months.

In the meeting of about 15 minutes, he inquired about Imran’s health and informed him about the order of the Supreme Court, in which he was asked to send him to Shifa International Hospital for treatment and medical examination.

At that time, Noreen, Alima Khanum and Uzma Khan had reached Adiala jail, but the police had allowed only Noreen to meet Imran.

Imran is in jail since August 2023

73 year old Imran Khan is in jail since August 2023. He was first arrested in the Toshakhana case after getting a 3-year sentence. After this, many cases including Sifar, Al-Qadir Trust and Iddat Nikah were registered against him.

Later he got relief from the court in Sifar and Iddat Nikah cases. One of his sentences in the Toshakhana case was also stayed. Despite this, he is still in jail due to other cases.

Imran Khan and his party PTI say that after stepping down from the post of Prime Minister in 2022, cases were registered against him for political reasons. He alleges that this was done to keep him away from politics and elections.

At the same time, Pakistan government and investigating agencies reject these allegations and say that these cases are going on under the legal process.

What is Toshakhana and what is the matter of Imran Khan?

Toshakhana is the official store of the Government of Pakistan. Here, valuable gifts received from foreign countries by the Prime Minister, President, Ministers and other government officials are deposited. These include things like watches, jewellery, paintings.

Controversy related to Imran Khan

Imran Khan was the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022. During this period he received many expensive foreign gifts. It is alleged that complete information about some gifts and the amount received from their sale was not given. Three cases related to this…

1. Allegation of hiding information about gifts

In 2022, the Election Commission of Pakistan found Imran guilty of wrongly declaring gifts and disqualified him.

2. First case of Toshakhana

Imran was accused of keeping some expensive gifts with him after paying a fixed price and later selling them. In August 2023, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison. The sentence was later suspended.

3. Toshakhana-2 case

This is the case of the Bulgari jewelery set received from the Saudi Crown Prince in 2021. According to the prosecution, its price was around 8 crore Pakistani rupees, whereas it is alleged to be kept for around 29 lakh rupees.

Current status of Imran Khan’s main case

1. Toshakhana case

In 2023, Imran Khan was sentenced to 3 years in Toshakhana case. Later this sentence was suspended. However, later in December 2025, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years each in another case related to Toshakhana. This punishment is in a case related to the alleged purchase of expensive government gifts at low prices.

2. Cypher Case

The 10-year sentence given to Imran Khan in the cipher/state secrets case was overturned by the High Court. He was acquitted in this case in June 2024.

3. Iddat Nikah Case

In February 2024, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 7 years each. In July 2024, both were acquitted in this case.

4. Al-Qadir Trust/£190 million case

This case pertains to around £190 million returned from Britain to Pakistan when Imran Khan was the Prime Minister and the alleged corruption related to it. On 17 January 2025, Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years and Bushra Bibi was sentenced to 7 years. In May 2026, his petition to suspend this sentence was rejected by the Islamabad High Court. The hearing on his main appeal is ongoing.

Adiala Jail is Pakistan’s ‘Tihar’

Adiala Jail is a high-security jail in Rawalpindi. There is a separate high-security barrack for 176 high-profile prisoners. In 2013, about 5,000 prisoners, including 67 high-profile terrorists, were lodged here.

Police, Rangers and other agencies are deployed here for security. To deal with a situation like a terrorist attack in 2024, police, rangers, bomb disposal squad and rescue team also conducted a joint mock drill.

After Imran Khan was imprisoned here, additional security pickets and elite commandos were also deployed around the jail. That means it can be compared with India’s high-security Tihar Jail.
