Veteran actress and famous dancer Helen shared interesting facts about the hard work that goes into creating some of Bollywood’s most memorable dance performances. While talking in an episode of ‘India’s Best Dancer’, she told that she herself invented many such accessories which became the identity of her glamorous cabaret songs.

Helen Said that she always wanted her costumes to look unique. Instead of relying only on local accessories, she went abroad to find things that could give her performance a distinct visual identity.

Helen went to Paris to get real feathers
Recalling the preparation for her dance numbers, Helen said that she herself paid attention to every little detail of her look. He chose accessories and fashion items that were not common in India at that time. She said, ‘I went to London and brought back blue, brown and green lenses and special eyelashes. My headgear was made by my hairdresser, and I even went to Paris to get real feathers for my costume. My jewellery, big glasses and accessories – everything was chosen to stay ahead of the times.’

Karisma Kapoor praised Helen’s contribution
Judge Javed Jaffrey Bollywood Praised Helen’s influence on fashion and dance. He said that her bold costumes, stellar performance and confident screen presence changed the way glamor was shown in Hindi films. According to him, he set new trends and inspired many generations of artists. Karisma Kapoor also shared something she heard from her mother.

He said, ‘My mother used to tell me that whenever Helen ji came to the set, everyone would become quiet with respect, just like it used to happen when Shammi Kapoor came.’ Karishma also told that Helen was known for learning choreography quickly during rehearsals, and was praised for her professionalism and natural talent.

Helen is behind Bollywood’s memorable dance numbers
Helen’s spectacular costumes became a special identity of classic Hindi cinema. Some of his most famous songs include ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’ from ‘Caravan’, ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ from ‘Sholay’ and many other superhit songs. Although she has appeared sporadically over the years, her last major feature film role was in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ (2012).
