A day after registering an FIR against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Delhi Police has sought information from social media platform X regarding Mahua’s post.
Mahua had posted a derogatory post against National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma on X, which she deleted after some time.
On Sunday, the Delhi Police Special Cell registered an FIR against Mahua under Section 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman by words, gestures or acts) of the new criminal laws.
Police may call Mahua for investigation
An official source said that Delhi Police has written to X and a response is awaited from the social media company. According to sources, it is necessary to know the details of the post for the investigation. However, the investigators have already collected screenshots of the post. They said that if needed, Moitra will be called for questioning in the coming days.
An FIR has been lodged with the Delhi Police regarding this post of Mahua Moitra. Mahua has deleted this post.
Know the whole matter…
On Thursday (July 4), Rekha Sharma had gone to meet the women injured in the stampede in Hathras. A video of this meeting surfaced, in which a man was walking behind Rekha Sharma with an umbrella. Regarding this, Mahua Moitra said that Rekha is busy holding her boss’s pajamas. However, Mahua later deleted the post.
Regarding this post, NCW wrote on X- ‘What the TMC MP wrote is a violation of the dignity of a woman. We condemn this and demand strict action against Mahua Moitra. An FIR should be filed against Mahua within three days. We have also written a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker in this regard.’
‘Come to Nadia and arrest me’
On NCW’s post, Mahua wrote on X – Delhi Police, take action quickly. I am in Nadia (West Bengal). If necessary, arrest me within three days.
Mahua shared several insulting posts of Rekha Sharma and wrote that Delhi Police, if you are registering a case, then you should also register a case under the new rules against the accused who repeats the same mistake again and again. Mahua also taunted Rekha Sharma that I can handle my umbrella.
Mahua lost her seat in the 17th Lok Sabha
In the previous 17th Lok Sabha, Mahua Moitra had to lose her parliamentary membership. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Mahua of asking questions in exchange for money (cash for query). Businessman Darshan Hiranandani had stated in an affidavit that Mahua had given him a parliamentary login ID. The matter went to the Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee.
On 8 December 2023, the proceedings of the House started at 11 am and the 500-page report of the Ethics Committee was presented. There was a lot of uproar over this. The proceedings had to be adjourned twice. When the proceedings started for the third time from 2 pm, voting took place on the expulsion of Mahua. After this, Mahua’s membership was terminated.
