‘पाकिस्तान से बात हो…’, PM मोदी-शहबाज को चिट्ठी लिखने वालों में मणिशंकर अय्यर और हुमायूं कबीर


117 prominent personalities of both the countries have jointly written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif demanding normalization of relations between India and Pakistan. This letter has been signed by 61 people from India and 56 people from Pakistan. This initiative has been taken by OP Shah, President of Center for Peace and Progress.

From the Indian side, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha, former RAW chief AS Dulat and many academicians, journalists, lawyers and social activists have supported this appeal. On behalf of Pakistan, former Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, former diplomat Ashraf Jahangir Qazi, scientist Parvez Hoodbhoy and many social activists have signed.

It has been said in the letter that India and Pakistan represent about one-fifth of the world’s population. Both countries have large youth populations, but persistent tension is hindering their opportunities for a better future, employment and development.

Was more demanded from PM Modi-Shahbaz?

The signature has demanded both governments to restore full diplomatic relations with the appointment of High Commissioners in New Delhi and Islamabad, resumption of visa services for ordinary citizens and ease of cross-border religious and cultural visits. Besides, an appeal has also been made to open the sacred Sharda Peeth of Kashmiri Pandits for the devotees.

Demand to remove ban on media also

In the letter, there has also been a demand to remove restrictions on the media of both the countries and to allow journalists to report freely. In the end it has been said that this is not an endorsement of any political party, but an appeal made in the interest of the future, peace and regional stability of about two billion people.
